I have a ZF FF, just arrived in my collection and I have noticed that the bezel is bi directional. Is that an issue on my watch or is it present in all the ZF FF?

Can the ZF owners confirm that?

Tx in advance

It should be non bi directional. It should rotate only anti clockwise. It is defo an issue caused by typical bad qc rom zf and TD.

Bidirectional, (usually) anti clockwise only.
Unidirectional, both anticlockwise and clockwise (both directions).
The watch is probably OK dude.

Not quite.
Bidirectional is like bisexual; goes both ways.
Unidirectional; one way.

So, just to understand. The gen is Unidirectional, my new ZF is Bidirectional. Can any other ZF owner confirm if his FF is bi or uni?

It is a diver watch, so the bezel should only turn anti clockwise. this is done for safety reasons. When a diver hits something with his watch when he is not aware of this, it is not allowed that the bezel due to this bumping, should turn clockwise. When it does (but not allowed) the diver, when looking at his watch will be mislead, he thinks he is shorter in the water than in fact he is. with all the dangers.

your link says: One-way rotating bezel and that one way is Anti Clockwise. Clockwise is prohibited for safety reasons.

does this help you a bit.

Edit: some nice info about the BP FF and why it is named FF

Yea OP, if yours turns both ways the bezel spring is broken.
If it makes you feel any better, I have the gen and my bezel turns both ways too, it was a fairly common problem...so yours is still gen like...

Mine from M2M sales has arrived today and is unidirectional (anticlockwise). It does have a little play in clockwise (like a milimetre or so). Could you confirm is normal for this watch? Thanks

I have a Citizen Pro Diver 1000m Gen. And there is a little bit movement to the clockwise direction. not much, but it is there.

You know, professional divers wear these watches , for sure. (the citizen that is, not yours!!) but they are not depending on them. They have professional assistent from the surface about diving time and decompression times.

In the old days there were no computers, no quartz. So Rolex, Panerai, BP and a few other, now old houses, made these dive watches, exclusive for divers (mostly sec for the marine) Today it is just a great idea having a watch with a long history and can be worn in the water. but professionally.... NO!

question: the Citizen is waterresistant up to 1000 meters. So it can handle an over pressure of 100atm. But why is there a "helium Escape Valve" ???

Answer: When being in pressure tanks or any over pressure gaseous environment for an extended period of time wearing a watch, gas (especially helium) can diffuse into the watch case or creep past the seals and gaskets. The longer the watch is opposed to this environment and the higher the pressure or helium content, the more likely it is to build up pressure inside above 1 atm. When decompressing there is not enough time for the pressure inside the case to relief and you risk popping off the crystal i.e. The question remains who REALLY needs a helium escape valve vs the number of watches sold with one ;)

YEAH thanks for taking the time to answer this question.

Who needs them? Well, my cousin is a Off Shore diver. Maintenance on stuff and so on oil platforms. Working on the bottom of the sea/ocean. He is working for one week in a row in these depth's, all the time living in a compressed chamber. When their shifts are done, they need several days to decompress. All in this same steel chamber, on board of a ship. He also has the citizen prof diver. Just for fun though, because other instruments and people on the surface watch over his safety. They are working with Helium.

thanks again and wear your watch proud and in good health. :)

You're welcome. How refreshing to read of someone who actually needs a HEV! :D
