Hi to all.
I just sold a Panerai 677 Luminor Due RG Acciaio P.1000 from XF, and as I did'nt really see any review about it, I decided to write down a quick one. So even though I sold the watch, mainly because it felt a bit small to me, it is one of the sexiest dress PAM I had in hands.
These Due are an attempt from Panerai to diversify its clientele with smaller/thinner cases.
So this is a smaller size Panerai with a 42 mm case width. The height is 12.5mm, lug to lug lenght 48mm and the strap fits in a 22mm lug gap.
The overall feeling is "precious" I would say, different than the usual manly-heavy duty feeling PAMs give on the wrist. The watch feels more dressy and sophisticated in a classic way, while keeping the PAM codes : pillow shaped case, crow guard, large crown, sandwich dial and big numbers. The whole designs works, but in smaller proportions so it's a matter of taste then.
Let's get factual, the Pro's :
-The grey dial sunburst is stunning, a little more shiny than gen maybe but very close. The sandwich depth is perfect, and the lume intense. This dial is a gorgeous hit from XF !
-The hands are good and well finished, with good lume too.
-The RG plating is perfect : mirror polished, evenly processed on the case, it looks solid and bombproof. Very nice light rose color, not as deep rose as seen sometimes on other brands such as IWC or else. This plating goes very well with the grey tone of the dial.
-The watch feels lighter on the wrist regarding its size, but with good and solid feeling.
-The "P.1000" movement is hand-wind and keeps time well. I don't have timegrapher but maybe it takes around + 5seconds a day I'd say. The winding feel smooth, and the crown handles manipulations without a flaw.
-The crown guard lever is firm, opens properly and feels solid too.
The con's :
-The P.1000 movement is the big flaw here, hand-wind yes but it's conception and look are far from the gen of course, which wears a P. 1000/10. Don't show your caseback to anyone who knows this gen movement. To me it's the only real tell that this is a rep, as all the rest is flawless.
-The strap is crap, but there's nothing new here. A good point is the RG thumbnail buckle is very nice though, all you need is a new strap.
All in all this a beautifully made rep by XF. A good quality dress watch, nicely sophisticated and very gen-like (unless you show the caseback). It sits perfectly under a shirt and is a daily basis beater for businessmen... or anyone who likes beautiful and unusual dress watches. Pricewise it's an amazing watch, well finished and with a nice design, good job XF.
Cheers
