This morning the post office came and delivered the watch to me after some customs delays. Everything looks really good - unfortunentally i'm unable to set the time on the watch. I could wind the watch without any problems and it started running. But when i pulled out the crown nothing happened. If i turned the wheel it keept winding the watch until it was wound fully. So i unscrewed the crownguard to see what was wrong, and the whole crown came loose (see the picture - poor quality. I can send better tonight when i get back from work).

So from what i can tell - the crown stem was not locked in place as it should have been - and it seems to be in good health. How can I fix this? Is it just a matter of opening the back case and putting the crown stem back in by pushing a small button on the movement? Or is it something wrong with the movement?

I could open the back if that is the case. But i don't have a case opener that will open this kind of case. Any advice what to open it with...

Before I do anything i'll wait for the answer from the dealer how he will fix this.

Ive seen a few 177 that have had this problem including mine. Hopefully your dealer can replace it for you or if you can find someone local to fix it and he can give you a bit of credit on your next purchase.

I am sorry to hear the news... :-(
I agree .. wait what dealer want you to do.. :)

watchsmit can fix that easy (if i am right) it should be just the lever that hold the crown. I can not tell you what its called .. all i know is how to fix it when it happen to mine.. but in order to do that you need to open the watch - removed the movement, hands and dials... and fix it.
I cant post picture now since photobucket site under maintenance.. but i can send it tomorrow..

Ehh?

Isn't the button to release the crown stem located on the backside of the movement?!

true... but your problem is in the front (at least what i know ) :)
If you can put the crown back and can wind no problems then its just that crwn screw release (it did not get screw on so easy to pull).. but if it wont wind at all the problems is this one.. there is no latch on the bottom left corner of the red box that i drew.. now your problem happen when the the holder come loose or the latch move to the next latch and it wont come back when you scrw the crwn stem release.
that piece below was shifted or even loose now so it wont grab the stem. I hope this help

Thanks for the information. I took the watch to a watchmaker and the problem was that the stem was not fastened to the movement. So he put it back in and fastened the screw and violá. It works, and im $35 poorer than before. But it's a beautiful watch that was running about 6min too fast every minute.

But i read in another thread about the "smack on the top/bottom" a couple of times - and it works :D . The movement has settled down now and seems to keep the time much better. Time will tell - as they say!

I have taken a lot of photographs during the day and i'll post them soon. Only problem now it that my wrists are to small for the straps that came with the watch 8) . So i'll need shorter ones! These were 24*125mm

Exactly that document i brought to the watch shop. But it was not necessary to show the repair guy that document. I think he has seen a Unitas movement before :p

I made an extra hole in one of the straps (have an extra pair in black) and pampered it with leather lotion - and then gave it a good treatment of mink oil. So it's a totally different feeling now - like a new leather couch!

there is screw on the backof the movement that tightens to hold the stem most likeley it was overlooked on assembly.

see by you review it was handled and taken care of.

for future reference when you get a non functional watch don't take it apart.

contact the seller to ask for solutions first.

Jupp,

I did. The only thing i removed was the crown guard to try to determine what the problem was. The straps was not mounted from the beginning so thats why the casing is looking the way it is on the pictures. Nothing was opened - it was done by my Omega AD. This was after communicating with Davidsen about my problem.
