Wow, that is a real Panerai lover right there. I would have a hard time spending that on a car. I could not imagine spending that much on a damn watch!

Don't get me wrong , I love the history and style of Vintage Panerai but,

50/50, those are the odds of a coin flip. And I agree with Enzo, to be sure its "real" would take the talents of a forensic scientist or who knows who...really.... people are scary GOOD out there in the rep world.Thats why we have to have so many protection schemes with our printed money..The technology is out there to fool anyone..

Bottom line is they used a common Rolex movt. in those days you can still get in Pocket Watches for USD$500.00 today ..so the only difference is the case metal, plexi, and leather were worn by a Italian Comander in the 1930s...worth 50k?I don't know..

Such a gray line between real and not.....such a $$ difference between $200.00 and $50,000!!

At least we all know what we are dealing with here and for a fraction of the cost..can enjoy the richness of the past...

There is one advantage with dating vintage military watches... Tritium. You've heard of carbon dating, right? Aging a watch based on its tritium decay is even easier. If the owner is even slightly interested, it can be verified for not a lot of investment.

really I am not targeting you Pugwash, but RADIOMIRs were called that not because of Tritium. These watches were layered zinc plates coated in Radioactive material a lot more nasty than Tritium. H3 was PC compared to a vintage RADIOMIR dial.
Even easier, then. :D

The sellers been "told" not to take the back cover off, hah. Didn't stop him from putting on brand new hands and a crown? All without opening the case!

Really? I read this further down that makes me believe otherwise ...

On Apr-17-06 at 17:17:56 PDT, seller added the following information:

THE WINNER OF THIS WATCH WILL HAVE EVERY OPPORTUNITY TO EXAMINE IT PRIOR TO COMPLETION OF PAYMENT. THE WINNER NEEDS TO HAVE THE PROPER TOOL TO OPEN THE BACK. I DO NOT HAVE THIS TOOL, WHICH IS WHY I WILL NOT TRY TO OPEN THE BACK. THE WINNER MUST MEET WITH ME DIRECTLY IN ORDER TO EXAMINE THIS WATCH AND FINISH THE TRANSACTION TO THE WINNER'S SATISFACTION.

On Apr-18-06 at 08:51:10 PDT, seller added the following information:

I FINALLY FOUND SOMEONE TO OPEN BACK. IT DOES HAVE A ROLEX MOVEMENT AND 17 RUBIES. SEND ME YOUR EMAILS AND I WILL SEND PHOTOS TO YOU. THANKS.

On Apr-21-06 at 09:55:31 PDT, seller added the following information:

WATCH CASE NUMBER 3646 10110283

The only suspect part is the "I have no history, sold as seen".

Where does one draw the line between passion an absolute INSANITY?!?!?!

No way in hell I drop that kind of loot on a watch that hasn't been in my hand first! I'm like enzo - quite skeptical!

I have no problems spending that (or more) on a car! But @enzo is right, could be a great bit of aged fakery ....

Damn maybe my 1950 is from 1950. My strap definitely looks vintage.Just did my strap came out vintage looking. May have used to strong of bleach or to stiff a brush as it cracked a little. So then I tried some black leather dye didn't like it washed it off used some kiwi mink oil on it and wet pruf but made a mess so rebleached and mink oiled it again. Leather feels so soft and it has this antique look now. It was the standard Fiddy rep strap before and now its butter. What do you guys think?? Also be careful how you dry it as they will shrink a little this would probably fit 24mm perfect now.
