My A6497 movements have a distinct click as you manually wind them.

My new PAM441 with A7750 automatic has no sound when you manually mind it.

it seems to manually wind forever, it never fully stops or increases in resistance. When I manually wind it it feels as if it is just slipping or rubbing against something.

Is this normal?

I also popped the back off to make sure the screws were tight, but it seemed half the screws would just keep turning and were stripped. Didn't even turn hard.

i am kinda worried.

Thoughts?

It's an automatic. You aren't supposed to wind it like a manual wind although a few winds to get the movement started would not hurt. Did you read the forums?

Yes, after I wound it. I have a replica IWC Port that's an automatic as well, but you can manually wind it and it stops. I assumed you could do the something with the A7750.

But like I mentioned, you can wind the A7750 forever and it never stops.

All 7750 movements have over winding protection. When you get spring almost fully "loaded" it releases some portion of power - hence endless winding ;)

I suggest you don't manually wind your a7750 regularly.
You don't want to put unneeded excessive wear on those delicate gears.

I'm not sure that makes sense to me. I bought my Dad a Brietling NaviTimer that uses the same A7750 movement with GMT function. I was able to fully wind that movement and it would stop, but it was also an automatic.

However with this PAM441, it just winds forever and never stops.

i guess that main spring clicks when it slips in a barrel when fully wound. That is how all the automatic calibers work unless they are broken. That is because when the watch is fully wound and you keep wearing it, oscillation weight needs to still move, otherwise it could broke the movement. Video shows how main spring is placed in to the barrel and you can see how it is not attached any way.

In my opinion, if your dads Breitling has a hard stopping point while manually winding, thats not a good thing. At some point the mainspring might break because unnecessary stress is being put on it.

About not manually winding 7750s, I too have heard that for years but I've yet to see evidence that its actually an issue. I have a 24 and a 499 and every time I wear either of them, I always give it 20 winds. There is even a model out now thats movement is nothing more than a stripped down 7750 to convert it to manual wind.

From Your description (slipping/rubbing) it´s not winding at all - if holding it to the ear and winding slowly You clearly hear it winding in a very high powered staccato - although there is no stop. Winding stem or winding gears might be striped already. As long as Your able to set the time it doesn´t matter either, I don´t wind unserviced rep A7750s and they keep good time and a medium 24h-36hr or more power reserve without winding, these are automatics.

Small tolerances and inaccuracies, added decorations, lack of proper oiling, too strong or fast winding, wears the winding gears and leaves a fine metal dust all over the rep movement.
