Option 1 of course...you definitely don't want to wind it in Option 2 as it would apply pressure to movement and not recommended at all

And the rubber of the crown will wear out losing its water resistance

Count me in to option one also. You won't break the stem. Wind it until resistance increases exponentially and you should be good for about 40 hours.
