Can anyone tell me how many winds you should give a 111h from dead and how long this should last before it dies again.

Also is it possible to over wind a watch?

I'm not sure if there is a rule about this. I know that my 111H will give me nearly 45 hours of power-reserve but I wind it every morning anyway. For me, it's around 30-40 turns of the crown. I wind it until it won't wind further but I never force it. From dead, it's nearly 60 turns of the crown but I avoid letting my watch run down until it stops. Is it possible to over-wind a watch? Sure, if your watch reaches its limit and you keep turning, it will likely break. I'm curious to know what others have to offer on this subject...

This morning mine was dead. I wound it til it stopped winding. That was the most I've ever wound it before. Had no idea that it would just stop letting my wind it. I was always so scared to wind it too much.

I would usually wind mine till i feel that it cant be wound anymore..there's always some form of resistance when you are about to reach the full wind...full wind on mine would last me about 42-46 hours (last i checked) but as a daily beater, winding everyday almost become a habit..

A little something I read earlier:

"If you have a manual wind watch, try to wind it at the same time every day. Winding it in the morning is best because you will have consistent power throughout the day. This may also contribute to more accurate timekeeping.

When the watch is fully wound you will feel resistance as the mainspring tightens. That's enough winding. Don't try and force it any further. You could damage both the mainspring and components in the escapement.

When winding a manual wind watch, it is advisable to take off the watch. If you keep the watch on while you wind it, you may put unnecessary strain on the winding stem at all points but particularly where the stem attaches to the winding crown."

Hope the info helps! :)

Great tips justlounging.

I don't think you want to do that too much, lol, it's bound to damage the watch. Especially given the great tips that justlounging just posted.

I find in my 6497 movements 40 winds from dead, or 30 in the morning if it's still running gets me over 24 hrs.
