Will you buy a gen pam if you get a 50% discount?

What if you have a chance to buy a gen PAM (for example one of the historic models) that you like at 50% discount off the retail price, will you buy one to keep?

I know this is never going to happen, but what if such an offer really comes by....

At 50%, it's still not cheap and we probably can still buy several reps here.

Or maybe we should just buy it to sell, and take the profits to buy a few other reps?

Just curious to find out what will you guys do???

cheers,
togokm

i am in....did the watch fall of the truck ?

Hypothetically, it could be so.. and the lucky person who pick up the watch probably has got no clue what panerai is.. And he so happens to be my friend.....

hahaha.. sometimes it's good to daydream a little...

Gens suck

Half price? No thanks. I'd rather save the difference or blow the difference on more reps or spend it on fine women and cheap wine (did I get that backwards?). I bet less than 1% of the population knows what a Pam is. I bet only .1% of the ones that know about Pams could actually differentiate between a gen and nice rep on someones wrist. So for me, reps rule, gens suck.

You could probably flip it considering how Panerai aren't really discounted these days, at least not at the dealers I have been to.

I'd buy a couple at a 50% discount. The 000 and the 113 (or vice versa, the 005 and the 114) spring immediately to mind. That'd still be two Panerais for ~$4000, a pretty good deal and I'd keep 'em, not flip 'em.

This is the classic thought process of soooo many people in the rep watch world... :?

The reason I would ever consider buying a Panerai is not so it would be recognized, etc, but for the timeless design, advanced precision movements, etc. It's the price you have to pay for all the work that has gone into it (and yes I do realize there is a hefty markup in there). As far as others recognizing your watch, this IMO should never be your intention when wearing a watch, wear it for yourself. Watches are to be admired firstly by yourself (again this is all IMO).

You can count me in on this.... with a 50% off retail is i ever get sick of it i know i can get more than i paid so it would be a no brainer decision. Know if the Pam costed 10K and you were selling it for 5K that might sway some people as thats alot of money on one watch.

Buy and keep GEN. I will always find some money for reps, at least one per month....

I think you'd be insane not to. As a business guy, I'd buy as many as I can and flip them. Hell, I'd buy almost anything for 50% off to turn a profit. And yes I'd definately keep a couple for myself.

I think your mistaking panerai for some other watch house that didn't buy out someone elses design (patek, ap, rolex even?) and doesn't use eta movement?!?! (OK they have some inhouse movements in the pipe... and maybe timeless if your talking about pre-v panny.)
