While it's not Panerai's most handsome design, I've seen much worse from other makers. This also is a return to a functioning "tool watch" and a departure from the fashion watches that have been the norm from Panerai in the recent past...

Aside from the fact it looks like something Wal-Mart would sell.......It looks cheap.

I don't think that's a very good photo by which to decide if it looks cheap, though. I'll wait for some high-res glamour shots for that judgement.

Really, the dial is a bit cluttered due to the depth meter ring, but I like it. It's no busier than lots of the other new dials like the Slytech Submersible chronos, the 233, and other. I'd argue the 196/188 are more cluttered designs than this one...

Yeah, not a fan of those rubber straps. Why can't Panerai use a nice thick, soft, smooth rubber strap? The smooth HBB rubber gen strap comes immediately to mind....

As dive watches go, this one looks about par with others, yet Panerai's previous dive watches have a better design I think. A good leather strap on it would make a big difference.

i always liked Panerai because of its minimalistic BAUHAUS style and simplicity...sure, this is a divers - instruments watch - looks more like a Seiko to me.
to many different designs mixed up in it....to loaded, and for an extreme expensive dive watch...whats 120m,
any other 125 $ Divers watch easily withstands 300m.
but hey..this is just my personal taste and opinion.

I don't undestand why is it that if they are the cash cow, they get to make an electronic (chip) diving tool with a depth rate of the 70's???

Take for example the new model offered by JLC. Now that is a mech diving watch (with the same depth measuring capability) and far better looking watch.

20 years ago, nobody wanted to buy a Panerai....fishermen.....and hobby divers....they sold for
not even 1000 $......Panerai was near bancrupt.
there along come several filmstars that wear them...promotional gifts....and new marketing strategies,
and the watches start selling....their prices ....sky - rocketing.
well, if Stallone and Schwarzenegger wears them....they must be something special. no doubt they are !
but not justified for their price....- value at all ( i know other watches same thing)
Rambo and Rocky buys all vintage models...spends over 2 million $.....and gives them to his friends when he has his parties in Beverly Hills...thanks to him there is a Beverly Hills Panerai boutique - selling watches like crazy.
And Rambo...creates his own design ( yeah right )....suddenly there are thousands of lawyers, CEO's,
doctors that buy Panerai....no matter at what price...no matter what design.
same phenomena with Harleys....

Most people fall for the new hyper-consumption world we are living in today, some more some less. I personally stopped thinking about luxury goods as being something worth the money that just few people can afford. Luxury goods are the ones with the positive demand curve, the higher the price, the more we want it...thats all. The reasons are usually exaggerated facts we make up ourselves to justify the high price...like Panerai has history. Of course, it has some kind of history, everything has history, but it is worth to you that much ?...thats the question.

Only 120m waterproof :/ Quite small for a dive watch.
That's a usable, measurable 120M as opposed to a lab-based static 120M. I suspect the watch will have a claimed maximum of something stupid. :D
