IMO there are two contenders for top spot. The VR3135 and the VS3135. The SH movements seem to get poor reviews.
Since the VS is reportedly no longer being made, that leaves the VR. However there are unengraved VS3135s available in what was described to me as “limited quantities “. VS were made by the Dandong factory which supposedly ceased production on VS movements. If you’re ok with an unmarked movement you can get one on Ali or from
thrillofhunt.
The VS movements are clearly superior when it comes to finish. They are pristine and second only to Rolex finish. VS movements sport a couple of extra jewels the VR movements lack, including cap jewels and springs on the escape wheel as per gen 3135.
VS3135s take all gen parts according to experts, including a gen balance. VRs do not take a gen balance but will take other gen parts. In theory a near-gen movement could be built using VS as a base.
VS3135 has a significantly higher amplitude than the VR movements, and run much closer to gen amplitude. Watchmaker
oascom suggests VS auto wind reversing wheels are prone to failure and VR wheels are more reliable.
On the wrist both movements get acceptable marks in timekeeping.
Below are OOTB timegrapher readings of both movements at full wind. No servicing or regulating has been done.
