I'm dying to get a 232 for starters.

Not the current black face model available. But the ORIGINAL LIKE GEN tobacco dial.

Lots have been said regarding the color but enough evidence has proven that the real 232 has the tobacco dial.

No matter what color distortion or camera angles are wrong but the CORRECT color is TOBACCO.

Am ready to jump on one once its available.... Who out there is still holding out for the RIGHT one???? :)

here here

can't wait.

although it is a very different brown from the 036, so i don't think the rep makers will get it right the first time. it's a greyish brown, same as the 203. very interesting color up close.

and i have to agree it's rather crazy people saying "camera angle" made the dial look black...or that some versions of it are black face..the watch even when first introduced as prototype was and is a tobacco dial. and all one has to do is check panerai's own website! this is not up for debate!

I just got a new 232. I was reading the debates over the dial color and enzo's pictures of the black dial never showed up for me. But I got one anyways, as I was going to vintage-ize it. I am not positive but from the pictures I have seen my dial has the same color. It is definatly not flat black like my 005 dial. But I can't say with assurity that it is the brown of the gen. This would be a great thread to get some comparison pictures going. I'll take some tonight.

I'd love to see the pics. I've been wanting a 232 for a while now but couldn't get around the dial being the wrong color.

OK so here's the pics. I don't know if the dial looks black or not, my wife says I can't differentiate the two. I think I can however. These pictures are a little off still from what the human eye sees in real life. I tried to do my best. I just have a really cheap light box (old cardboard box cut out with wax paper windows) and an even worse desk lamp. But I was going to take pics of this watch anyways. I hope you all like. And please let me know what you think the color is.

A Davidsen 232 will be my next watch.

I am waiting to see what becomes of the dial colour debate first though.

I intend to contact David shortly and see what he is going to do with his 232 dial following recent discussions.

Alright guys, I started looking around for some genuine 232's. I am not 100% that these are genuine, but if they are, they are very close to what I got from Trevor.

Anyways you all be the judge.

Notice especially this link:

http://cgi.ebay.com/PANERAI-PAM-232-RAD ... dZViewItem

It mentioned 'Two Ply Brown dial applied Arabic numerals, lance hour markers and gold hands with luminous coating.'

Thats better than any picture. :)

I did notice that link as I it was one I had posted. :p

I still think the pictures speak louder than words and these pictures clearly show that the dials our dealers have are the correct color. I mean can you tell a difference in those that I took (at really close macro) vs the ones on the links??

pictures vs. real life

it's really hard to tell in pix, mate, what the color of the dial is.

i see a gen 232 almost everyday at work. have tried it on several times. i saw at least one version of the rep. definitely not the same color!

the ar coating on the rep made the dial appear lighter than black, but certainly not tobacco (a greyish brown) of the gen.

i don't know if your rep is different, mate, but to be brutally honest, the pictures do not look like the gen brown to me.

see this thread on paneristi and compare the dial colors between the 232 and the 005 and 088:

i haven't seen a rep with the brown dial yet.

I am pretty sure it is the same 232 I have that I got from Trusty last October. The dial is a smoky dark gray almost black, but not tobacco brown. I have an extra dial for it too and was hoping to get it painted brown, but that seems not so feasible. It is a very cool watch in any event. :)

Davidsen's is near perfect with the correct hands, font and cannon pin.

The jury is still out on the dial color.

I have not heard any update as to whether he intends to update it.

Gen PAM232 comes with dark brown dial - slightly different in shade from 036/061/055/116/118 etc for example, but definitely brown, not black.
:)
