I’m considering ordering 42” PAM 1393 or the 44” version PAM 1313 both VSF, can the movement be upgraded to ETA? Or the only model that accept ETA is the base logo?

why do you want to upgrade to eta? I ask because many people say getting the asian movement serviced and regulated can be as reliable or more.

Anybody can work on ETA. Super clone movements are harder to work on. The parts also aren't available for many models.

You can look here to have an idea wich Panerai model had an ETA-derived movement.

But it's already ten years (from the 510) that Panerai introduced manifattura movements. so that nowadays there are not current models without it. Possibly a watchmaker can replace a P.9XXX with a 7750 but it could be hard work and not worth. These are reps you should not be concerned in longevity that much.

So basically when the movement craps out I’d need a new watch

There are some models that use a slightly modified Unitas 6497 movement that is easily repaired or replaced. There are probably others, but the hand wind models in particular like the 111, 177, 183, 000, etc.

Given the price, you can always buy another if it stops working. You can buy a dozen PAM reps for the price of a gen and that will last more than a lifetime.

There are others on this site much more knowledgeable than me that could help.

Hi, @PAM2019 . You can easily replace an Asian Unitas with a Swiss Unitas ( running seconds at 9 o’clock ) but it will not be visually like Pam’s genuine Unitas because Pam customizes the plates and the bridges . Then you can quietly replace a base movement ( WITHOUT RUNNING SECONDS AT 9 O’CLOCK ) with an ETA . Then you can replace an A7753 chronograph’s movement with a genuine Swiss ETA 7753 . Greetings .

If you have a 1970s Ferrari and the engine craps out, you'll have it rebuild. If the same happens to your 2015 Ferrari, you'll sell the car because rebuilding that engine cost as much as a new Corvette.

Same with watches.
As far as Panerai is concerned, you better stick to those who originally came with Rolex/Cortebert or ETA-based movements. They'll live forever. The new ones with in-house movements you can have serviced to keep 'em alive longer, but if they die, you ditch the watch.

Hi, @marcsp2675 , just for laughs … I LIVE for cars and, at second place, for watches … if i buy Ferrari I buy only vintage because there are cars, the actual models - in my ridiculous opinion - are only spaceships that not even fly . But if I, tomorrow in the morning, discover me crazy and I buy a new Ferrari and her engine broken himself, I will set fire and flames inside dealer’s showroom until he replaces it with a new one, in my presence, with an original Ferrari certificate WITH AN APOLOGIES ATTACHED in my name 😄😉
