I am looking to buy my first Panerai. I have always been drawn to GMT watches, so I am thinking about either an 063 or 089.

My first choice is the 089 because I like the look of the seconds hand at the 9 o'clock position. But I am concerned about the reliability of the Asian 7750 Valjoux. From what I have read, seconds at 9 is better than seconds at 6, but would it be more or less reliable than a modified 2836 that comes in the 063?

I would appreciate any input. Thanks!

i can only speak to the 063..have one, Ruby. modified 2836 flawless performance.....and you've stated it properly in your post that you are lookin for your FIRST panerai.....just ask around bro. once bit, the infection spreads rather rapidly and you're virtually defensless against the particular strain of paneristicryptococcus. sweats, nightmares, rwi will be your only source of treatment,a virulent bacteria that will .........well i'd rather not say......not a very pretty site..........but a hell of alotta fun

Yikes - so far I have been able to keep the watch infection to one or two a month. [smilie=angel7.gif]

Maybe I should hold off on the Pam thing for a while. That way I can try to avoid the deadly moneyleavus walletitus... [smilie=icon_puke_r.gif]

I have 2 089, one blue face and a TI. Both work perfectly, running 2 sec +/day after I adjusted them....

As for looks I prefer the 89. Just love Ti and the grey dial looks spectacular.

Concerning the movement, most will say that the A7750 works just fine. Though I prefer to have a swiss movement underneath...

I've been wondering if DSN has the 89 with swiss movement.... if so, probably I might save some money for that one.

Cheers!

i decided for the 63 .....i am also not to excited about the asian 7750.
but i just bought a watch with it....so far, runs very good !
maybe i buy a 89 if things go well with the 7750 experience !

I just read up on Ziggy's review of the 7750 over on RWG. It takes 11 extra gears to make "seconds at 6" work

No wonder people question it's reliability in that configuration.

PAM GMTs

I have the 29, the 63, 2 88s (one blue, one black dial), and just received, a Ti 89 with the Anthracite dial. They all run flawlessly, EXCEPT, that the GMT hand on the 63 will often stop movoing.

The 29 and 89 have the ETA movements, the 88s are 7750 at 28,800. No real differenct in running.

My favorites are the 89 (I love Ti watches), and the 29 and 63 (I like the central sweep second hand).

You should get the watch that you like the looks of the best.

The 089 is a fantastic watch ! I have the anthracite one and it is a serious good looker ! As for time keeping, it seems to hold very well with no issues ! Good luck on your choice !

Yep, no way you can just have one.

Then you start buying straps and there goes the rest of your watch budget...
