Pam noob here with a couple of questions.

First. Why do we use PAM as an abreviation for Panerai?

Second. I'm looking at getting my first Pam rep and would like a 112. Looking at Trevor's site, he has two.

The first one is noob factory, high beat rate on rubber for $198.

The second is h-factory, low beat rate on rubber for $158

From what I know (which isn't much, noob here remember), the h-factory makes the better rep but the high beat is preferred to the low beat.

This makes for a tough decision.

Experts chime in and tell me which is the better watch!

Thanks

:canuck:

The 112 has a sandwich (cut-out) dial, and the noob version is superior in that regard.
The noob case and CG looks better then H-factory.

If you can afford to pay +40usd for a better replication of a 5,000 usd watch (it makes a difference this way, right??) I'd go with the noob. You'll love it!

BTW, in case of base PAM-s (no small seconds hand at 9) the low vs. high beat should not be a real issue, since you have no seconds hand ticking, just the minute.

edit: I have no real clue why use the PAM as an abbreviation....

Thanks for the reply. Noob it is!

Re. low vs. hi beat: I know with the base you won't see a difference, but I thought the high beat was more reliable...

Yeah the noob is just a bit more accurate. Heres a great comparison of the 111 form the nice folks at puretime. Different watch but very similar

That being said I have a H factory 112 that I scored a sweet deal on and its nothing short of glorious

Noob has the cream color font on the dial. I go for that

My first rep was a 112 from Davidsen about 4 years ago now. I still love it and wear it regularly. Such a beautiful design in its simplicity. You will need to get a nice leather strap from one of our strap makers for it. Trust me. Makes all the difference in the world! That was one invaluable piece of advice I received at the time I bought it--so I'll pass it on to you

Noob is the way to go. Better everything and nice high beat running inside. The low beat hfac movements look bad IMO

I would disagree with that, the dead lowbeat in my H-Factory 177 is very shiny, but my Noob 112 highbeat movement is not quite as 'bright'! :D

Definitely go Noob though - $40 more for better reliability and correct colour dial text is a bargain :)

I went for a Noob 112M, it is beautiful, buy with confidence and enjoy it.

Beware though, the PAM bug is addictive, I'm waiting for a 292M and am putting out the feelers for a 127...

Here is my noob 112m from Trevor. Love it, even though it has the low bar A. The AR could be better though, H-maker AR is way better. But H-maker cant compete with N when it comes to the crownguard. Go for the noob and aftermarket AR and you have the perfect 112 :)

Nice looking 112 - I've heard about people talking about the low bar A but when I was looking at gens I could barely make out a difference.

Here are a few from the PAM website but to me it looks like if anything the bar is the tiniest bit lower on the rep, if at all.
