What's the big fuss about the LH dials...?

I compared the gen and the LH 112 dial and didn't like it at all...

- Fonts are too thick including hour markers...
- The P and A are so close together in the word PANERAI that is nowhere near the gen...
- Letters are all seem cramped together instead of spreading evenly on the gen...

There mayabe areas that this dial is better than others but rep dials are all having some sorts of imperfections like that...The LH dial is basically no difference...Don't quite understand why people are paying over $200 for it...

Look at it yourself here:

Pretty much on the spot Tut...when I first saw them last year I commented on the dial txt font being off, actually quite off for a $200+ piece of rep spare part. Noone listened and most thought I was smoking something

The fact is, LH sandwich dials are still by far the closest rep dials to the gen 112/111176/177 Pams, bar none. He went extra mile and did what rep factories have been ignoring for close to 4 years now - the sandwich Pam dial with very close to 1:1 numeral and hour cutouts. Now, wheather his dials warrant such a high premium is matter for another discussion. I for one cannot see myself purchasing one of these dials, heck for xtra $100 I can get myself a gen Breitling dial for a swap.

stay well,

Recent rep part prices are getting out of hand...

$300 - $400 for a Fu case...
$300+ for a Fu or V CG...
$200+ on a LH dial...

Spending over $700 to $800 on a modded watch have become a norm these days...Still remember the good old days when rep prices are in the $200 - $300 range and we were all very happy with them...

All the new collectors must be rich blokes... [smilie=angel10.gif]

What I am trying to say is if the watch is on your wrist...No one can tell the difference between a gen and a rep as long as the rep is of reasonable quality...

If looking under magnifying glass, anyone can tell...

We all strife for perfection one way or another but I think a lot of us are crossing the line...But hey, if someone can afford it, good for him...For me, I wouldn't spent that kind of money on something that are only marginally better...

I agree with you tutima.

Back in 2005/6, rep prices were hovering at $ 200 plus on average. Swiss ETA 6497 or 2824/6 reps were going for USD $ 380 tops.

Nowadays, rep prices are escalating to an all new high...

Two main reasons that I see are 1) the fact that there aren't well made Pam historic reps available new out-of-the-box anymore, and 2) the scarcity of a gen Panerai replacement parts in the wild.

As long as one of these 2 conditions doesn't change, we'll be expected to pay premium for aftermarket rep parts that are close to 1:1.

I mean, think about it, how hard would it be for Chinese to replicate pre-V / H-series CG ?
Until then, if you're after a thick and flaring rep CG for your H-series rep you would be expected to pay more than the whole ultimate Breitling rep, for example.

cheers.

Crown guards that are more expensive than an entire watch!!! It's crazy what people are paying just get get details that 99.9% of people do not know.

A: I am wearing a PANERAI!

B: What's a PANERAI.....

LOL
