So my question to you all is, If you had these two key components to making some thing extra special, What would it be?

Thanks for all of your suggestions.

111G. You'll need to have someone brush finish that crown guard, though. But since it's a roller tip CG lever, you could always just tell anyone who asked that you swapped the original CG for the newer style and that you like polished CGs better.

Yep, go PAM104. Swiss 7750, gen crown from Kruzer, 104 dial and caseback (caseback series will be wrong, but it's as close as you can get at the moment).

Maybe the question should be what not to make...?

Careful with the auto Pam aspirations with Jimmy's case. His case is a reproduction of 001B gen historic he owned few years back. As such, it will NOT be a good fit for auto PAM like 104 or any other from auto line, as those cases are slightly deeper and of different inner dimensions to accomodate auto mov'ts.

If I were you, I'd save the gen "fat" CG for auto or sub replica of post H-series, as their gen counterparts come with polished thick CGs, just like the one you have. You could source a nice rep of 104 or 229 auto, or 024 sub and replace the stock thin CG with your gen thick one.

Also, with that Jimmy case of yours, I'd find a nice polished old-school replica CG and better looking rep crown and make myself a nice sausage (painted dial) historic rep in pre D-series, so with xtal without A/R as that's basicaly what Jimmy's case comes with standard. The options abound...001/002/003/010 etc, make your pick. Closed S/S casebacks in B or D series aren't that hard to find these days.
The main thing now would be to source a nice dial, I'd pick either 002 or 010 (DSN's) as my favourite picks. Undecorated plain Swiss 6497-1 would also be my pick, if you could source one.

Good luck,
babola

Thanks for those great suggestions, as I was not aware of all that. By any chance would you know if there ever was a 87 rep? and also I will start looking into vintage dials.

Thanks

You mean like PAM 087 1000m Sub, successor to infamous 064 'La Bomba' ?
Oh yes mate, both reps are still being made, IMO very nice gen-like reproduction of the original PAM 087D with lighter blue color dial and "pushed" rectangular indices towards the centre of the dial, jut slike genuine D and E-series 087. Sapphire is 5mm thick like the gen, and the oversized CG/crown assembly is simply striking IMO.

Caseback will be slightly wrong serial (C series insted of D) but that's a minor thing, really. Rep makers simply borrowed it from the 064 rep, and never made a 'correct' D-series one for 087. The good thing is, the serial numbers on both 064 and 087 casebacks are random, really nice touch and bonus. :)

Things to look for, or mod...
- lume isn't bad, but it's white, instead of aged Tritium, so you may want to consider this done in the future
- bezel studs/markers come as brushed and should be polished. Once you apply a little Cape Cod threatment on those the whole bezel and dial together pop.
- get the one with corrected (straight) 8 and 9 o'clock rectangular markers, and newer 28.8kbph A7750, basicaly ask for the latest 087 rep version.
- potentialy replace the DW with Lello's, but that doesn't bug me much. Date cyclop cannot be tampered with due to it's sandwich construction. Kruzer and Ziggy confirmed this. Still not that bad magnification afterall.

I love the "Bombas", these reps are really well executed and quality made, and with some TLC you'll be wearing a very nice watch, indeed.

Stay well and enjoy the ride...;-)

Only here and there H...90% of my work is on mechs 6497 powered historic Pam reps.
Some time ago, I tried to make a nice 001B with the spare case from Auto 027A PR and xtal from Jimmy Fu, the mov't and dial didn't quite fit, :(

Oh well...that's what I both like and hate about reps, no two are the same :)

cheers,
babola
