HI Guys,

Im hoping you experts can help me out as Im out of my wheelhouse on this one.

After showing off my recent purchases Ive been asked by my sister to source a watch for my brother in Law. I have some thoughts to put together a shortlist for her but need some input from those in the know.

In terms of style, he's a farmer that will only be wearing this while relaxing / functions / holidays / weekends in the city... you know, polo shirts, jeans, RM's etc :)

Ive narrowed the field down to brands that have recognition among the non-watch geek, are popular enough to have good quality reps available, and I like but aren't my pet brands :) (does that make me a bad person :) )

Im thinking maybe Breitling, Omega (no way is he getting a PO Pumpkin before me though!), Rolex or Tag - I'll be posting one of these in the other brand forums too.

Criteria are -

Min 40mm - Max 43mm diameter - if bigger plead your case, but I think pilots need not apply.
SS, maybe Ti or Ceramic, no PVD or rose gold.
Automatic, pref with display caseback - want to have the wow factor
Date and seconds sub dial would be good
Non Chrono - has to be relible, Ive just had a bad experience with my A7753 and I dont want to hand one over to a non-watch guy with rules like a Mogwai :)
At the moment not sure about leather straps or bracelets, but I think rubber is out.
and
Good quality rep - something that you guys like and want (something people in the know respect), but run of the mill - $200-$400 Noob or BP etc, not $900 custom modded build etc etc.

SO what you got? Anything that meets, or almost meets, these criteria?

Im super keen on a Calibre 16 Day Date, but thats for me, he's not allowed to have it :) What else is there? Are the Monaco reps any good?

Anyway, let me know - thanks for your help :D

Tried to meet Your criteria but - wow - that´s a difficult combination. Including casback only PAM´s come to my mind, otherwise would say Breitling SOSF V2/Rolex Explorer II. Now for somebody who is not into reps and wants a gen-like watch with a wow-factor I´ve only got one offer - my most gen-like rep, the one You think it´s gen when on the wrist:
TAG Heuer Aquaracer Grande Date - Swiss Ronda Quartz as the Gen; So it´s a reliable stopwatch, well-lumed and for 1 minute got a crazy spinning 1/10 second dial (check on youtube) doesn´t meet Your criteria but would be the one to get, easy, simple, reliable, shockproof, nice - not an auto

F1 chrono in quartz. It's an accurate rep and bomb proof.

Thanks guys, that does look pretty slick but im going to stick with an auto.

The fact that there's no battery and its totally mechanical is a wow factor to the non-watchgeek.

The AquaRacer 500m is the Tag im putting forward

Update...

So it seems I was a bit hasty. After a chat with my sister the rules have changed.

-Size is still in the 42-43mm range with maybes given to 44mm (PAM's need not apply, I suggested but she said he would rather "a well known brand like Tag" :) - what are you gonna do)
-Quartz is now being considered, so quartz chronos are in the mix now
-Strap - Leather, preferably brown / tan, then black (smooth, not croc), then bracelet
-Something in stainless is still the preferred case material - no black or Rose Gold

Now as far as Tags go...

Datwatch - that Grande Date might be in with a chance..
TB - sorry, F1 Chrono got the thumbs down

But if the Angus, H Factory Space-X happens anytime soon... although that will be a 7750 wont it? Is there decent quality quartz Space-X's?

Thanks for your ongoing interest Tag guys!
