What is the Value of Box and Papers?

Here's the deal....I've finally found a gen 023A from a highly reputable dealer. There is no question that it is genuine. However, there is no box or papers. There are also a couple of minor flaws that Panerai can fix for around $500.

I'm thinking that the box and papers ARE a big deal when it comes to the value of the watch. Ergo, my resale possibilities will be limited due to this issue.

So, what is the value of the box and papers. For example, if we are looking at a $5000 watch, does the lack of box and papers whack 10% off the value.......or more......or less?

Thanks for your thoughts!

I would say it would be more like 20-25% of the value... only because resell would be difficult....

I wonder if there is any way for Panerai to reissue papers...

....and speaking of value, is there a definitive source for "book" value or market value for Panerais?

I would say unless the papers are specific to the watch or can be directly linked to the watch in question, they are only valuable to the buyer/owner as storage to keep the watch.

If they are exactly what you would receive from Panerai directly with the watch, I would think the value would be considerably higher. I personally would pay more for a gen watch with its gen papers and gen box.

Nope...best you can do is research the collector's market on 'risti or the sales area on TZ...

If you really like the watch and you are very sure that it is a genuine piece I suggest that you grab it and source for a box and papers later on.

You wouldn't need a box when the watch is in your wrist :)

box 'n papers

G'day

efn' - see , we even abbreviate that

I reckon the post above is right: at least -20% from ...$$ ??? Need to look at paneristi.com etc for recent transactions - there's no KBB, clearly.

Anyway, I think it's worth getting it w/ the works - just simpler.

Good luck mate, BBB
