What is the general consensus on manual winding a 2824?

Hi everyone !!

I was just wondering what your opinions were on manual winding the A2824 since it is quite a common movement here (between the Diver and SubC)?

Just got a AP Diver V7 and was also wondering whether I should send it for service (or oil the rotor with moebius 9010 and jewels with microgliss D5 myself) or replace it with either an ETA / Powermatic 80, what would you recommend?

This is my first automatic non-chrono, been having PAM 6497's for a while and Hublot 7750 before...

Thanks !!

Read some of these threads about manual winding automatics below if some are interested, there seem to be two answers to this question:

The 2824 will slip if you overwind it, and Asian 2824's nowadays definitely aren't fragile to the point where you will break or damage them just by winding. I have a Glycine with an eta 2824-2 and also a Pelagos with the Asian 2824. The Asian winds just as smoothly as the ETA and also keeps time just as well, and I wind both regularly since I alternate watches. If there's nothing wrong with your watch there's no need to replace or service the movement immediately.

I've never been afraid to hand wind. One of my watches with a 2824 has no rotor on it so it's always manually wound.
Opinions on this will vary based on experience. My opinion is if a watch has the capability to be wound manually then why not. Never had a problem yet doing so.

I always hand wind to get them going, regardless ETA or asian. No problems yet. I have read that the 7750 can sometimes have issues, but mine all wind and work fine. 2824/36 movements, never even a hint of an issue regardless gen or rep. Good solid movements, accurate and reliable. Don't oil unless you know exactly what you are doing. This can do more harm then good.

Thank you for the replies guys greatly appreciated :) !! Main reason I was asking this was that I saw an ETA2824 on a gen forum having its teeth 'eaten' out due to manual winding but seems like there's nothing to worry about..

To manually wind it the crown should be wound/turned away from you (from 6 to 12 like you said) and as for time and date I wouldn't suggest changing dates or moving time backwards between the time of 8pm to 4am.. maybe someone else could confirm on this

The automatics are automatic - so I just shake them gently to get them going and put them on the wrist. Never broke a stem or grinded winding gears, they keep good time and hold the power reserve. If this was not the case, I´d start winding them too - knowing beforehand it will be soon till a service or replacement is needed.
