My first rep was a Pam bought over on HF and then discovered RWI five years ago and the rest is history. Panerai was one of my go to watches and with all the new models being made it was awesome. For the past half a year it seems things are slowing down almost to nothing. True I got the AP and IWC bug as well but for some reason cannot get into Rolex but I am almost going to cave in and get one with the new 904L stainless steel.

I am hoping someone has some news on new Pam models to be released I for some reason cannot see any movement.

Are the factories seeing no profits and starting to go away from the Pam models?

I am just curious if there is any news out there.

It was inevitable that there would be a slowdown. Otherwise you'd risk customers having PAM fatiqgue (I don't but then I'm not the usual customer out there). But the statement is only half right, there is "no movement" but actually the improvements to PAM reps lately are those relating to the movement, namely the P.9001 and the P.9000. They have improved to the point where aesthetically and functionally they have copied the gen for the most part (there are tells on the movement to know if it's a rep and the PR gauge,on the P.9001 does not work and there is no seconds hand hack). And now we are seeing them on the PAMs that have used these movements. However, for a long time PAM collector, it may not be exciting as these are the same model but if you want the best reps, then these developments are exciting.

Factory wise, the once celebrated rivalry of Noob and H-fac are no more. It was already done a few years back with Noob going under new management and pulling back on their PAM production (now it's only the PAM111 and the recently relaunched PAM127 that exists in their catalog) which also sparked the great PAM sale. Then it officially ended with H-factory being closed down. KW is not producing any new models and if the stories are true, KW just stopped being KW and renamed itself V6F and that factory too has stopped making new models, but it's offspring XF and VSF are carrying on the tradition and are still releasing PAMs, although previously released models for the most part. So far no new models have been seen or announced on sites like watchbus. So let's just wait and see.

I wish factories would also do some other non-popular brands. The saturation of Rolex and Panerai's are a real bummer. But better than nothing I guess.

That's a real problem. But if you got an idea and you have a guaranteed number of orders (I forgot how many was the minimum, but I guess the total buy in would be around $50K-ish), you can contact one of the TDs here to try and get them to make a rep.

Yeah, it’s been a while since I read any Pam buzzwords like “chamfered”, “CG”, “Incabloc”, “swan neck”, “Pillowcase”, “sandwich”, “sausage”.....

Now, I’m hungry.... ????

I might be biased but imho factories should look into older models like the 036 or 082 or 028. They could still adapt many existing parts and have some buzz from the forums due to interesting releases.
New gen models need proper movements in order to sell and that's a risky investment to rep a brand that seems to have lost (at least partially) it's catch

So you're saying Davidsen should contact a factory? Those 3 models he has been producing for some time now, in varying degrees of success/popularity. If the big factories don't see much movement in what DSN is making, they might not be motivated to do a large scale replication for those models. It's a miracle David even updated the 082 a few years back to fix the moat around the numerals on the dial.

I bought the Davidson 021 last December and the first watch was a dud and the replacement has been at the watchsmith now twice with stem issues not impressed

Only DSN makes the movement and the watch that is using it.That really sucks but that's part and parcel of being part of the first batch of buyers. Any reliability issues may still remain or you were just obscenely unlucky.

I would like to highlight one important thing - Panerai is releasing too many new models/shapes/movements lately.

Factories can't rep'em all of course. Moreover, my personal feeling is that this abundance of new models has a negative impact on sales. I've seen many of the latest SE models available for sale at ADs (not boutiques) with discounts.

That is a growing sentiment among Risti. However, let's see if Angelo Bonati's replacement will change the tide. As for reps, factories don't care much about the gen Risti market. The commonality of many models is great for business, if only they'd start replicating the new case designs.

that is correct and there's a vicious circle - no new folks onboard until they rep the new models, even though I have to admit that I would buy a good small rep for my wife

Interesting comments. On the parallel world of gen PAM is relevant to note the exodous of a great number of 'old timers' from P.com mostly feeling disappointed by the way the brand decided to evolve during the last five or so years of Angelo Bonatti. Is the brand evolution somewhat saturated and has departed from the original mission/spirit? On a personal note, I got more exited by the latest XF 000 and the possible improvement mods than any other recent release.

In the rep world, us "old timers" welcome improvements to pre-exisitng models as we know how much improvement reps have had in the past 5 or so years. Those without that experience are looking for variety at a high level of replication so they only want new models. Experience does give a bit of perspective.
