so recently my noob 372 wasnt winding and the thought was that something was blocking the movement. So I went to a local watchsmith and was upfront that is was a rep so he didnt want to work on it.

Because im not so smart, i wanted to just see if i could see any issues myself, so i unscrewed the 6 bridge screws
and lifted the bridge first with the balance wheel. Bad idea number 1

then i lifted slightly the middle size one, and heard the watch unwind.

i put everything back and flipped the watch over....oh snap....wtf happened

is this watch garbage or is there anything that can be done

experts please advise

If its running You just need some Rodico or bluetac to get off the dust and a pair of new hands. If nothing works..... start a vintage project?

Dude! Oh snap is right you have a mess on your hands. That movement is probably fried. That much torque to bend contort the hands like that, probably stripped some gears. Scratched the dial and maybe bet the cannon pinion.. Not sure but my guess it's toast...as above case is in affected...

This watch is hosed. When you disengaged the gear train, the mainspring let out 48 hours of juice at the speed of light, thereby turning your 372 into a paperweight. You need new hands and a new movement, but you can fix this for about $60-$80.

DSN can get you some gold double pencil hands for the 6497 and a new 6497 movement for about $70 for sure. Then you can find a nice guy like me to work on it for free.

WOW ! Crazy forces at work there !

Sorry OP for the misfortune, and Kudos to Grim !

But this does pose an interesting question, looking at this movement.

How does one let down such a movement to do work on it as you cant even see the gears or click or stuff?

yeah, i thought that by unscrewing the bridge screws i could atleast have a peak inside and see if there was anything that i could remove blocking the movement....little did i know what was gonna happen.

ive taken a few a21 movts apart but never put them back, they went straight to garbage, but this watch would be great to salvage, as it wasnt cheap. and looks damn nice,

so im ready to do what needs to be done

Those decorative plates are just stick-ons. I can transfer those to the new movement, no problem. But DSN does have access to that identical movement. He is planning on using it in one of his upcoming watch releases.

The only problem will be the hands. identical hands will be VERY hard to come by. Double pencil hands are everywhere and the shapes are all over place. Maybe Toro or Puretime can help?

Yowza!

I've done similar to a A6497. I don't even know what I did but I heard that horrible zip line sound. Knew it was done for.
Ordered a replacement and did the swap. It's actually not that hard on 6497s. I've never dealt with the faux plates though.

Is it just stuck on to a standard 6497 movement?
