If you two are close enough, ask to view a copy of the sales receipt. Otherwise, I wouldn't even bother. (Unless you're looking out for them and making sure they didnt get ripped off.) What's the actual purpose of this?

not close enough to ask for a receipt or even see the back. he got a friend to purchase this for him overseas. not knowing his relationship with this person, i am worried he might be ripped off by the friend.

If you're not even close enough to see the back of the watch, that's going to be hard to fully know.

Lume colours, hands, crystal, dial engravings and CP look rep, but the pic has not definition enough
The rear view would be definitive

If you aren't close enough to do this, then in the hierarchy of things, especially trustworthiness, his friend is closer to him than you and you have no business questioning the authenticity of the watch. Unless you know this friend of his is in the business of selling reps as gens, then maybe you have a reason to be doubtful but most likely your mate also knows this and if he still trusts this friend of his to purchase a gen for him even under these circumstances, is your friendship worth being lost over questioning authenticity? It's a difficult position to be in, especially when all three parties are close in one way or the other.

Define "ripped off." Again, what is the goal here? To declare authenticity? It could certainly be an authentic replica of a genuine watch...
