What Do You See In Your PAMs?

I noticed from the different rep forums that people collect PAMs for different reasons and appeals. What do you exactly see in Panerai watches, or what kind of style do you look for among the many watches? It'd be interesting to learn more about yourself and your fellow PAM crazy rep collectors...

A year ago when I first started out in reps, I didn't really like the Panerai range of watches. I bought myself a 005 from Davidsen, and the design gradually grew on me. The simplistic lines are actually very beautiful. Not my favourite brand by far, but one that I do like wearing ocsassionally.

it is a watch...simple and easy....if I look at it I know the time, if it is light outside or dark.....and of course, the size....and one other point, every dude has a Sub and they do not know about Pam's until they find out

I didn't like Pams at first either. Breitlings got me into watches. Little by little I learned to love them.

Good question, and it's surprising it hasn't been asked before. :)

Like many ADs have told me, Panerai is a cult watch, and though I am not much for cults of any kind I admit, it's wonderful to have this insider knowledge of the marque.

It's interesting that the overwhelming votes are going to one of the 3 choices so far, and it's precisely my response (not repeated here so as not to influence votes).

May I just say that any watch which is so masculine, and yet looks so fantastic on anyone, regardless of sex, colour, height, weight, anything -- is a very special watch.

Hardly surprising the masters of design, the Italians, would have conceived it.

Actually, I have another poll selection 'The large size of the watches', but somehow it didn't get added when I built this poll. As I just mentioned in another forum, the 'form' of Panerai watches is in itself a beauty in its simplicity. Panerai was the first brand that revolutionized the standard large size of watches in the 90's. There may be other brands, but Panerai was the first to made it this big.

Most models that I like (esp the Marinas) utilizes the large size to 'minimalize' the characteristics hence making the watch a favorite among young yuppies when minimalism was the in trend. For me, I'm still appealed by the ample black matt surface of the dial. That is why I much prefer the Marinas than the Daylights.

The other factor I thought was also minimalist in the Panerai designs is the font. By definition, minimalism is 'a school of abstract painting and sculpture that emphasizes extreme simplification of form, as by the use of basic shapes and monochromatic palettes of primary colors, objectivity, and anonymity of style'. Panerai fonts, for the lume and others, are large with simple lines/curves and without much decorative designs. In fact, the fonts are in themselves the 'deco' and serve a functional purpose at the same time.

If you would have asked me that question 2 years ago i would have said Pam huh? I started collecting watches at a very early age my first watch was a Tag Heuer and ever since i got hooked. I found several of the replica sites looking for the a Rolex, since then I have owned many many watches but now my true love is the vintage Pam's. From my perspective the vintage pam with the cortebert or angelus movements are truly works of art and the collection of these really provides that never ending quest of adding to the collection. Even people that dont know anything about watches know that these HUGE watches are unique and interesting and for some a great conversation piece. So yes it is a watch that can help the blind tell time but for some who dont have the change to own an original this provides the less fortunate to bask in the glory of wearing a replica of these time pieces.

but hey thats my opinion...

just so I can wear the same watch as RAMBO

LOL. Is that why some peeps go for the AP to look like 'I'd Be Back' Arnienator?

Frankly, I was not aware that RAMBO being a supporter of pannies and the existence of the Slytech range until I started on this forum site. Personally, I have not really laid my eyes on the Slytech range yet. Is is any good?

Customization

I think the customization of the brand is a big plus for pams as well. The slightly different dials, bands, etc. As with most fetish items, customization is what keeps people coming back.

They are just simply beautiful! I had never heard of or set my eyes ona Pam until 1 year ago. I was in the gym, and a guy I knew had one on. I was drawn to the size, and the beautiful rugged stitchless band that wrapped around his wrist. I had to ask, what is it? He stopped his workout, and gave me a history lesson of Pams. You could tell this guy loved his time tellers! I was hooked! It is only recently that I found you guys and reps, and for that I am very grateful! I just ordered my 1st one. A 111h, coming from Davidsen. I am like a kid waiting for Christmas morning.

As long as it looks good on my wrist...

I'm not bother about the history of the watch even though many people claim that to be the key of this brand. I think that's just Richmont's marketing.

Looks like the guys on this board feel the same...
