Anyone think it would be too 'in your face' to wear my Fiddy for an interview?

Scares me to think that I may get called out just on the off chance that the interviewer is into watches... :?

What do you all think?

I think it's a bad idea unless it's in an industry where you'll be getting/have been getting paid $300K a yr. If you are applying for an $70K a yr job, wearing a $20K watch you might be wearing a watch your interviewers can't even afford. It's not subtle either like a Rolex etc. If they know PAMs (which they might not) they'll for sure see it.

i never think it is a bad idea to show you have been sucessful in your life when you are about to talk about your salery. you don't offer chevrolet money when you are trying to buy a bently now do you? if they call you out just tell them this is your dream watch you are working for to show your goals in life. either way it will let them know you are expecting real money.

I sort of agree with what's been said above.
So few people know PAM the chances of getting called out are close to nil.
If you get called out it could be bad, or it could be good, depending on how receptive the person is to fakes.
Chances are if you get called it it is more likely to be by a repaneristi > true paneristi >> gen pam owner

If they don't notice they don't know anything about panerai and its just a big and somewhat strange looking watch to most uninitiated.

I agree HK....employers want employees that want to be successfull. I want people that want something out of life....

Worrying about this issue would be just like worrying about where you are going to bank the money when you buy lottery tickets!! It just isn't going to happen. If it makes you feel good to wear it, just do it. Bottom line it will show a sense of style.

I am always surprised when I read this type of post. I guess it is just because I have never given a second thought to what watch I wore to anything other than, I am going to be working so I will wear a watch I know won't flood, or i am wearing a tux so I will wear my Movado Museum. Other than that I just don't consider it. If I was a blue collar employee and I had inherited a Gold Rolex Day Date, I would wear it with out a second though. They don't know where you got it. If someone decided not to hire me because I was wearing the wrong watch, they are obviously not concerned about what really matters and I am probably better off somewhere else. IMHO

Thanks for the varied views chaps.

I just found out that the interviewer wears a black sub, but isn't into watches as a hobby...just the standard IT manager's office watch.

So i think i'll be safe in him not knowing the difference between a good rep and a gen. My only concern now is if he does think it's a gen and does actually know anything about Pannies and wonders why i'm going for a job that only pays 2-3 times the value of the watch he thinks i'm wearing. He may think that if I can afford a fiddy, what the hell am I doing going for a role like this.

IF I do get asked about it, I think I will just tell him that it took me 5 years to save up for it as "I always reach my goal, no matter the cost to me".

Thanks again guys :D

could be a crazy plan, mate.

I was wearing one of my pannies to work, and the assistant director came down and jokingly said, "I think we must pay you too much, you wear a nice panerai, and you drive a land rover."

I would have told him "I'm not overpaid. This is the stuff I bought with what I stole from the company." :D

just remember, nobody knows about your finances but you. maybe you made allot of money on tech stocks and lost most of it on something else so your looking for a job like he is offering. the bottom line is nobody knows but you. wear your watch proudly and just play it by ear if he asks you about it. just be nonchalant about it and nobody will be the wiser. 8)

good luck,

Wearing a fiddy to a job interview would be just fine. Do not however wear your underpants outside your dress slacks.

If your interviewer even knows what a fiddy is, then you got the job anyway, because you two will be talking about watches all interview...

don't sweat it.

Years ago the rules of interviewing made people nondiscript drones. Those rules are gone so be yourself. If that is the watch you wear - wear it. Good luck.
