Hi all, first post and thank you all for the wealth of knowledge here (Ale, your guide has been an incredible resource - thank you).
I tried looking up this answer after some advanced searching but could not find anything. Is the waterproofing service ($20) from puretime worth it? Does their test guarantee the swimworthiness of the watch? I am thinking of pulling the trigger on a PAM 243 and would really love to be able to swim with it (no diving, just swimming never more than 10 feet deep). Also does anyone recommend any brown leather straps that would be fine for going swimming?

Thanks!

Rubber is best for swimming.
Don't believe any claims of waterproofing.
Have it tested before you swim!(mall kiosks can do a vacuum test)

What 'test' are you talking about ?? Do they send you a pic of the "test" with your watch and name on it as it is being tested ? If not, don't believe it. They just tighten up the caseback for 2 seconds max and call it waterproofing !!!.........................I believe in Santa Clause to guys !! It was him I tell yah !! It was !!..............Oh before I forget, a warm welcome from Los Angeles, California................. home of the true 'Smog Test" !!

Hi and welcome. Something that´s worth it, is getting a fitting caseback opener (indeed should say closener or tightener) and some silicon grease (Nyogel 760 and an o-ring greaser).

You open it - grease the caseback- o-ring as well as the crown o-ring - tighten it well back together and if You perform a wp-test afterwards in 95% or more of cases it will be fine to go (seldom there may be any leaking area around the crystal or just anywhere).

It´s something easy to do Yourself, and once You start You´ll discover all kinds of things: O-ring forgotten, o-ring squeezed flat and perforated by screws, everything dry or dusty and rusty etc. etc. - once You get the hang to it, You´ll do it in a breeze.

here in Vietnam, it's cheap to test waterproof, and I can easily go swimming with diver watches even go on beah. I only care the money to buy watches, but repairing or moding them are so cheap here.

Just get a silicon greaser and seal the caseback yourself. Cheaper and surer.
