I already feel really dumb about this, but thought I would share if it benefits anyone else. I have this really nice 4261 Daytona built by yodog, and briefly immersed my hands in some water. It immediately filled up the water and what was really nice painted dial and antique job has turned into a rusted and faded mess within a couple days of the water getting in. And some of you may know this, but some may not, especially if they’re new to reps like I am. It’s definitely worth having your watch pressure tested, or otherwise confirmed to be water resistant before you expose it to any water. I’m really sad about this, I have reached out to your dog, hopefully he or another repairer will feel up to the job.

Unfortunately the original Daytona wasn't an "Oyster" (note the word missing from your sadly ruined dial) and those chrono pushers were never going to be watertight. Rolex changed the design to incorporate screw-down pushers in order that the Daytona could also be designated a waterproof "Oyster".

It's still a valuable lesson to share tho.

I never take any risks with any of my reps around water - even those that the factory claim are waterproof. It's quite ironic having a large collection of Submariners that are never going to be submerged (or even get wet), but fortunately I haven't got the slightest interest in watersports, so it's not an issue.

I feel for you mate.
I have done something similar , I went into a sauna n steam room wearing my planet ocean Liquid Metal a few times. Stupidly thinking it was ok. I loved that watch.
Two of the numbers dislodged inside the glass. too add insult to
Injury I had a brain wave and bought a watch repair kit and decided to try n fix it.
And had an accident with the super glue . I could have cried.
It’s the inner workings and dial that now all stuck :-(
The casing and everything else is still good.
My question is , is there a replica repair replacement place anywhere , someone that can replace the dial?
I can’t get another watch like it.

A shame that happened.

Read my guide in my signature.

Like I say in my guide of my signature :
  • Take untested replicas into the water at your own risk. If you don’t like this, don’t buy replicas. Most members advise not taking any watch into water unless it has been tested by a watch maker or by yourself. Most TDs also do not cover warranty against water damage. If you don’t like it then don’t buy a replica, use a $50 Casio Duro instead.
Especially vintage watches. The original vintage Daytona barely had any water resistance. My guess is that the crystal on these custom modded ones are all a little loose and unless are UV glued to the case, basically are just for decoration.

Heartbreaking. I have a friend that went swimming with the screw down crown up in his Tissot once 🙃

Even some genuine watches for that matter, I had a Breitling that the crown gasket went bad on that took a dunk, ended up with water inside. I was fortunate to catch it immediately. Pulled the back and put it on a computer fan for a few days and it dried out. Surprisingly it still runs years later lol. The only other I’ve lost was a PAM rep and it died the true death.

I even have one of those watch waterproof testers from Amazon and still never wear my watches near water. I’d only trust a watch to wear in water if it’s been tested by a pro with expensive water testing equipment

yeah, now depends very much on the luck also. I have bought from InTime06 a GMT 2 claimed to be water resistant 50m so I did took it to the beach with me and kept it on my hand while swimming and showering with hot water and the thing still the same perfect condition... but I might stop here and next time take my gen Omega Seamaster 300m to the beach....

ouch, just invent a back story to the damage that will impress the ladies and wear with confidence.
Exactly, tell them when you had to dive off of a boat in the ocean to save a child who had fallen out, you were able to save the child, but the saltwater ruined your watch …

… and you had to fight off a circling great white shark with your bare hands, and the watch was caught in between its teeth, the pusher getting engaged so saltwater gushed in to ruin the dial, but thankfully, saving the life of the young child who was on the Make-A-Wish Foundation’s boat doing his final dream of sailing on the Mediterranean, which you funded via a generous donation for him and his entire family…

even if theyre tested and pass, theyre still reps. Sometimes you just get surprised with them fogging up. I had a watch that supposedly passed pressure test and on a humid day the dial looked like a studio with snoop dogg in it. Absolutely fogged up.

passing pressure test is usually good enough for regular water exposure, but dont have too high of expectations submerging or diving with these reps.

Always pressure test a watch you plan to keep long term and wear in shower pool ocean etc, but do so at your own risk .

I bought a waterproof pressure tester off Amazon for like $90 to check all my watches, gens and reps.

It only goes to 6 bar but since I don't swim with a watch that's enough that I'm somewhat confident that if I get pushed into a pool or get them wet when washing my hands they "should" be ok.
