Water Resistance on Sub Reps?

I know I know, there are many quality levels and factories making sub reps so there is no definitive answer as to water resistance. I just bought one of These http://www.watcheden.com/rolex-submarin ... 2-p-1.html Basel 2008 Sub Reps. The quality of the watch in every area is very nice, it's sold as having an ETA 2836 movement (although i know there is alot of debate as to which watches actually have a genuine ETA movement or just a replica of a 25 jewel ETA Movement), but the movement seems very good to me, I placed it next to my Father's Genuine Sub and the motion was identical, the cheap $88 reps don't move as smooth or have as many ticks per second. This Rep has an o-ringed crown etc, and the website claims the watch is water resistant, so I'm guessing it is probably safe to swim in? I wouldn't trust it for diving though, but it would be nice to wear in the water.

Is there anyway to have a watch tested for water resistance?

Don't the trust a rep to be water resistant anything and no don't swim with it. If your so compelled stop by your watch shop and they can do a pressure test for you.

+1

Always, always, always get one tested before jumping into the pool! or any other water source. Don't trust any claims of waterproofing from dealers. For how much it costs to get it checked, just bite the bullet and save yourself a watch replacement.

This aspect bothers me about reps... or more accurately, dealers. Even the "trusted" dealers get away with lies, but it seems OK since it's understood to be universal. They say they do QC but (mostly) just drop ship. They say gen ETA but use asian clone. They say waterproof but you can't get them wet.

I get it, this is just a part of a business that by nature is shady, but this seems to throw a lot of people off since they're told to use "trusted" dealers but then it's the same people who later get told "oh you should never trust them when they say X, Y, Z."

Hey, if the dealer says water resistant, jump in the pool. If it leaks send it back for a replacement. That's why they're called "trusted dealers".

I, for one have never had a rep non chrono dive watch that I couldn't swim with, although I do grease the seals and make sure everything is tight before dunking them.

Seriously though, it shouldn't be too expensive to get them tested if it makes you feel better.

Our dealers are not a free watch leasing service. You should always get your watch checked over.

you obviously haven't read this have you.

http://forum.replica-watch.info/phpBB3/vi ... white+lies

if you get your sub all nice and sealed up don't get too cocky with it because if you try some real diving the crystal gasket will give up and flood your watch. it just isn't the same as a gen and there is no way to make it that way.

hope this helps,

I called a couple of generic watch repair shops here in vegas but they didn't do pressure checking, I'm guessing probably higher end jewelers or watch shops have the equipment to do that. Is there a problem taking a Replica to shop that Sells Genuines?

Yes !!! Don't do it

You can usually get pressure testing from the mall kiosks that do watch batteries etc.

Don't take your rep to an AD.

Uh yeah. Especially if they sell that brand.

There's a term I came up with to describe people who do that.

I always take my super sea dweller double red vintage with the dimond bezel in for a cleaning every time I go to my AD in the mall.

If I buy a Seiko and it fails in my pool, it will go right back to the dealer. Just like if I buy a Sub from Josh and his web site says "water resistant", it would go right back to him if it fails in my pool. I certainly don't recommend SCUBA diving without it being checked.

I know no one takes responsibility for anything they do as it is. But comparing a legitimate gen watch company with an industry whose sole function is based on a lie. You do have a sense of humor.

You seem to be taking a snipe at forum members as well.

It's not hard at all to figure out why they lie. And why they have gotten worse.

just think about it.

Nothing?

Here's a hint. It hangs on your wall.

I've had much better results with some of the dealers here than I've had with some of the big box stores lately. It all depends on how much you trust your dealer. And I'm not talking about Josh in particular, I'm talking about all of them. I'll take Robert or Ruby or WBK or Narikaa over Sears or Walmart.
