So, after a shitstorm of a day, I came home to find these 2 beauties on the mailbox, so I wanted to share my impressions.
First of all, thanks to NCRich for giving me the heads-up on this hidden treasure (at least for me).
The company is called WatchGecko and they sell all kinds of straps - NATO, leather, metal, diver, the whole nine yards. But the best kept secret is that they have this Prototype Straps program, where they have some straps at a ridiculously low price in exchange for your feedback. The feedback is not mandatory, but it's the whole purpose of the deal.
The packaging. It was very nicely wrapped, with branded bags and everything. Every component was independently wrapped - straps and lug bars.
The straps. I bought the black and the vintage brown. First to go is the vintage brown. I really like the color, the buckle and overall feel. The only drawback for me is that I found is was too thin. It's not posing a problem right now, but we'll have to see if this changes after some beating. I feel it might tear or stretch after a while, but so far it's perfect.
It pairs beautifully with my 1680.
Wristies
The black strap is nice also, but too shiny for my taste. I will beat it up a little to see how it changes and update.
Price. Ok the best for last, right? I was planning on just trying out 1, but they were $12 delivered, so wth?? So I paid a quarter short of $24.00 after conversion for 2 straps delivered - not bad!
So overall, for the low investment it's got a high ROI. Let's just see how durable are they, but if they survive the rest of the year, I'll be getting some more!
Thanks again to Rich for sharing this!! It truly completes the look!
The website is www.watchgecko.com and go to the prototype straps.
Enjoy!
