Watch winders

So seeing as I now have a Daytona clean rep and a vsf yachtmaster, am thinking about getting a 2 watch winder.
But not sure if they are suitable for reps as it may cause unnecessary stress to the movements.
But then I don’t wear my reps all that much and having to set the time every time I put it on is a bit of a pain.
I’ve seen a few that are quite expensive and well out of my price range. Then I’ve seen others cheap and cheerful.

So is it worth getting a watch winder or should I just “suck it up buttercup” and just set the time manually 🤣🤣🤣

I strictly use Orbita watch winders for all my Gen & Rep models
I have a 4 winder in safe, his & hers 2 winder for daily wear & 2 single winders for travel (also used for daily).

I believe the wear is minimal vs contantly changing day & time

Thanks for the reply, wow some of those prices are super high 😂. The 2 watch winder doesn’t seem too bad.

Some will say they are the best in the industry 😉

My original 4 watch is over 15 years old. For me each of the five I own is worth every penny.

Automatic watches are mechanical devices and more you wind them, more wear occurs, naturally. I would only ever use a winder (gens or reps) if I needed the watches to always be ready to put on a wrist. I however enjoy setting a watch and winding it in the morning - it's my daily morning routine - breakfast, a cup of good coffee and getting my watch ready are as important to me as taking a shower and getting dressed for work. To each its own though.

I can appreciate your 'daily' routine... sounds relaxing
1) I don't have time to wind a watch & barely have time to grab a coffee to go.
2) I am OCD about smudges, therefore foam spray timepiece & place on winder... clean & ready to wear!

Yes, Some are concerned about the 24-7 wear & tear on the movement. I've been wearing Rolex & Breguet for the past 30 years & have never had a movement wear out w/ regular service & oil/grease. I have also been wearing Rep for almost as long... & my wife's Datejust, Daytona & ladies Pres are all 15+ years old & running strong on winders.

I don't think there is a 'right' answer... only what is 'right' for you! ;)

I would be more comfortable putting my gens on winders than my reps lmao, gen Rolex and Breuget are designed and manufactured extremely well so it's no surprise they can handle a winder.

A rep though? Lol

Exactly my thought. Out of the box reps don't belong on a winder, unless they have been serviced by a pro. Otherwise you're putting unnecessary strain on a movement in an unknown "health state".

With out of the box gens it's a whole different story. I put my gen Speedmaster 3861 on a winder all the time. Although, for some strange reason, it stops running anyway. But no damage to it either! 😆

Good one - probably there are still some members who won't get this tho :)

PS: Just kidding, I don't own a winder. I'm in the ritual/routine camp. Winding/setting is enjoyable.

For those times when you're in a hurry and need a decent ready-to-go watch, I have my high-end Quartz Bulova or my Grand Seiko plus a few others. 😊

I have one winder and the watch that made me get it was my ZF 15202 because I got tired of the wrong date

The funny thing is I don't even put my 15202 on it lol

You can always convert the winder to a robot bartender to shake your cocktails.

Or to a pet-robot for your dog or cat.

Or convert it to a machine that can...

So many possibilities. 😆

With all kidding aside: It's been already said. There's no right or wrong in such matters. Your own choice is always the right choice for you and it's the choice you are most comfortable with.

The same with the question "should I have my rep serviced right after receiving it?". There's no generally right or wrong answer to this. The right answer is what works best for you. That simple. 😄

And by the way: Overthinking any hobby or passion takes the fun out of it!

Want a winder? Get one!

You like a rep, but it has a major flaw, but you still like how it looks? Get it!

Will people call me out for my rep? So what? Let them! (Be glad that someone even noticed you are wearing a watch in the first place. 99.9999999% of humanity doesn't give a ****.) 🤣

Can my rep break down after two days? Yes, it absolutely can. Because it is a cheap toy. 😁

People worry way too much... Just enjoy your watches! 😎

I like to keep my collection small so I only have a single watch winder for when I alternate between watches. I like having my watches working and moving but I can see the flip side
