Hi all,

hoping that some of you can give advice on whether to get from the more expensive variants or if the cheaper do the job as well.

They are starting at 50 ($ or €) going up to the hundreds - more than the price of most reps :unsure:. Thanks for any hints.

is it going to be placed next to your bed? I heard the only thing about the cheap ones is they aren't at all silent.

I bought a wolf single watch winder I've been happy with, right next to my bed and I've never noticed it. It was probably a medium range (I think it was around $150).

Wolf are nice and quiet and cheaper than the Orbita ones! Seriously, a Wolf module 2.7 Viceroy will do nicely, is quiet and works well.

I picked up a very nice looking 4-watch winder with jewelry drawer for $50 bucks on Ebay. I can't vouch for long term...but after two months I'm happy with it. Seems to be working as advertised, and if it dies no big deal. PM me if you want a link.

There's a metric shit load of threads on this topic but alas;

Budget winders will be too loud if you're a light sleeper.

Expensive ones will be quieter but still audible.

IMO and lots of others, you're mainly paying for life expectancy and wood/leather/finish with the more expensive ones as the sound change is negligible.

My advice, if you're looking for a reasonable winder that has proven efficacy, check out acetimer.com. The winders are upper-mid tier at a mid tier price.

This sounds like the same one I bought off of EBay for $45. So far I'm very happy with it and it's completely silent.

The is the one I bought is here. I got mine several months ago, looks like the cheapest one now is $60.

Try to get one that spins more vertical (close to 90 degree angle as possible). Some of the Asian movements don't wind well at 45 degree angle...

That was the primary reason I bought the one that I did. It is somewhat closer to vertical than 45 degrees. I have two watches with 7750s that are known to be a problem at lower angles. They both charge fine with this winder.

IMHO, watchwinders just age your watch artificially fast. Let your watches run out....it preserves the life of the mainspring.
