Before I get molested. I've searched, I even searched Google for this but need some help as I'm not 100% in my findings.

I just took delivery of a pair of 785's. I picked up the black dial and the white dial.

The black dial is gaining 5 seconds every single minute. I tested it with my iPhone, waited for the seconds hand to reach 12 and then timed it. A minute passed on the watch which was 55 seconds according to my iPhone stopwatch. I did this multiple times and having had another look the watch is saying the time is 3:10 AM when its actually 2:03 - I set it correctly at 10.30AM this morning before going to work.

I worked out that the difference in seconds per minute adds up to 2 hours 16 minutes fast per day which is unacceptable.

Before you ask, yes I've emailed the TD. But I want to know if there's anything I can do to fix it myself. I'm a bit gutted and don't really want to send it back if I can help it. TD is yet to respond.

You have a few options
A) don't wind the watch
B) enter your watch in a race and win your money back
C) work less and blame it on your watch.
All in good humor. There is nothing you can do personally unless you are a horologist and can regulate the watch. I would personally wait for your TD to reply and get them to fix or exchange it for you. Good luck buddy. TD are always good with resolution but sucks you have to wait. Joke was to lighten the situation btw.

Possibly it's become magnetised? You can buy a de-magnetiser from ebay or similar websites

regulation cost $20?

sent from BOOOOOOOOOM

I have no idea what a regulation will cost, but I'll look into it. :)

No worries, It would be cool if time was really how it is on my watch. Work would be done and finished so much earlier than it is now!! I'll see what my TD says about it all...

Doubt it's magnitized. If its consistently gaining 5 seconds it's a regulation issue. Magnitized watches would show erratic behavior, likely gaining and losing time.

Sticking/dirty hairspring would be my guess.

Take it to a local watchsmith and have them put it on a timegrapher. You'll know very quickly what the issue is. Or even a look at the hairspring could give some insight. Any chance you can post a close up of the balance in a neutral position?

That's is mainly true. There should be a problem with the balance IMO

It's a closed casebook and I don't have the tool to open it yet - it's in the post. I'll take it to a watch smith and get them to put it on a timegrapher. I've timed minutes from the watch at random points all day and it constantly gains ~5 seconds per minute every minute.

if waterproofing isn't an issue, you can open/close case back with a ball of duct tape.. Basically a bootleg "stickyball". You can also dowload Kello app from iTunes App Store as a DIY time graph. With kello, you can actually do some some DIY regulating on the watch. Use a toothpick to adjust he regulating needle +/- as per the markings on he movement. I think here's a YouTube vid link posted here or on RG. Odds are however that running over 2 hrs a day fast, there's a more major issue. I had a chronomat ego 7750 with a similar problem and since I'm lazy, it's just sitting in a drawer somewhere...

Thanks for this. I found Kello and now have that on my phone. I am lazy too and cheap, so I just sent it back to the dealer for fixing/replacement. Thanks for the info tho - the sticky ball thing is a good one!!
