Second time is a charm....right? Watch Eden is a "trusted" dealer, so perhaps the Panerai "experts" in RWI land will give me more than an "avoid" answer when I ask "what do you think of this watch?" Has anyone ever purchased one of these? Several other "trusted" dealers carry this item as well.

Panerai Radiomir Pam 292 Black Seal With Unitas 6497 Swan Neck Movement-Authentic Ceramic

http://www.watcheden.biz/panerai-ra...k-movement-authentic-ceramic-i-22888-p-1.html

As I mentioned in a previous post I like it because it has the swan neck movement and sapphire crystal. I am asking about the watch, not the dealer here. I have read where Idolreplicas.com is the same as Watcheden.com. I have made several purchases from IR without any problems - perhaps they should be "trusted." I trust them.

Come on now, can I get more than an "avoid" from the group? "Avoid" what? The watch or the dealer? Hey, I am open to suggestions for another Pam - but from what I can see one should look for one with the swan neck movement - the sapphire crystal is a must too IMO - Thanks JackTheBear :lolcina:

I've been looking for this watch too. Nothing great ATM though..

1. The case is ceramic, but it's polished. GEN is matte finish.
2. The AR is really blue. You would need to remove the AR, or remove and get colorless AR.
3. The lug screws aren't like GEN (not a big deal, you won't see them when worn)

Yikes - I see the light

Thanks for a meaningful reply. I noticed the "blue" too - Is it possible the "blue" is a result of a photography anomaly? I am checking with the seller - Also I see what your are saying about the lugs for case screws. The case back on the gen is chamfered and the rep is not - just drilled. IMO I think this is a serious ding on this item.
Did a chat window with Watch Eden and they said they would look at the item and send me an email in the am. Pretty good customer service, if you axe me.
Has anyone see a Pam like this one with more features closer to gen? Thanks JackTBear

Just found this Pam 111J on timeshops.net site. http://www.timeshops.net/product.php?id_product=7342
Was comparing to a gen 111J http://www.watches24seven.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.ShowItem&g2_itemId=13729
Annnnnnnnnnd it looks pretty close - swan neck regulator - sapphire crystal - The search continues

The blue hue is due to the AR coating. you'll see it on the crystal whenever there is light on it unless you're looking at it directly down on the watch.

The only "better" version i've seen was on PTW wesbsite but it was not ceramic it was PVD. and it still has the same lug screw issue.

I haven't seen the DLC one that T4D is talking about, but i would also like to see a link to that. Hopefully it is a pig dial?

Can we have a "link" for that? ;)

OK Time4Direct you have a couple of us interested in a the DLC coated version. A link and some additional specs would be appreciated.

"here is a better version that is DLC coated matt finish has the inserts on the lug screws as well"

A primer on DLC - I know, I am the only one who didn't know what it meant....

Diamond Like Carbon coating has many commercial applications, including machine tools, aerospace parts, F1 engine parts, pharmaceutical implants, and of course, high end watches.

There are a few key characteristic of DLC, which has helped it to supplant the use of PVD as a cosmetic coating for fine timepieces:

It's Harder

DLC is an extremely hard coating. The following graph (from pvtechnology.it) shows the comparative surface hardness of various materials, using the Vickers of Hardness scale:

In terms of relative hardness, DLC, at 4000+ HV is:
About 5X as hard as stainless steel

About 5X as hard as stainless steel
About equal to sapphire
About one-half as hard as diamond
Significantly harder than other PVD coatings

One of the primary uses of DLC is as a dry lubricant for pumps, machine parts, bearings, cams...even razor blades.

The low-friction attributes of DLC help to increase the durability of the coating when used on watches. Glancing blows against a hard surface, which may dig in and damage normal PVD coating, are more likely to simply slide over across the surface of a DLC coated case.
Simply stated, it's just more difficult to damage a DLC coating.

These characteristics, along with the beauty of DLC, have helped it to grow in popularity as a hard surface coating for fine watches.

It seems to me that the font on the 12, 3, and 6 are wrong too.
I second that the AR coating is way overboard, I was just trying to find blue on mine while writing this and just couldn't. Those, along with the shiny ceramic seem to be the biggest issues.
