Want a 177L, or wait for the 005k??

Hey guys, I am still very new to this hobby but its taken over my life and I love it! My cousin got me into reps and my first was a pam 253 that I recently sold to a member here. I picked up a beautiful Hublot Big Bang SS from Lay (replicamake) who was just outstanding to work with. My cousin also picked up an AP ROO from him and the quality of these pieces were great. He is currently getting his AP ROO serviced. I also acquired a pam 177 from a member last week. I love the model (came from Trusty), but I believe it is the old version and has some flaws like the cannon pin is way too low and the print on the movement plate is crooked. Nonetheless, I love the piece and may mod it or pass it on to a friend who wants it.

Now..with all of the great reviews of the 177L and how close to gen it is, I decided to place an order with puretime. I thought only Lay was out of this model, but puretime is too. I asked them for a refund but they cannot get it back to me till after Feb 10th and offered to pick another watch at a higher price to replace it with. I really want the 177L so there isn't anything else I'd replace it with except for the Breitling Avenger Skyland SS - grey, but that is more than they are willing to give credit for. So now my questions:

1. Will the new 177L batch be just as good?
2. Will the 005k be just as good of quality and is it a better rep because of the closed caseback? I've read that a lot of the tells come from seeing the movement.

I am not trying to pass these off as genuine, but part of the rush is finding a rep that is as close to gen as possible! I appreciate everyones input!

You can't judge a rep until you have good photos and review from an expert. Unless you mod nothing is 1:1 to a gen...Nothing! These new reps are good bases to build on, but room for improvement.

I prefer closed backs, the rep movement annoys me, so I'm excited for the 005 and it has some of the same tell signs as the 177.

I'm in the EXACT same position with Puretime. Kinda strange to me how they informed me about being out of stock only after having picked up the money at wester union and sent me a 5th email, but I guess patience is the only way to play this game. I'm gonna see what they have to say after the holidays as I haven't received an answer to my email yet. Hope they get a new batch pretty soon....

Yeah, there were a few strange things they said to me in their emails as well. But I think we will need to wait till after CNY to get ANY watch delivered. The 177L will probably take longer since they have to wait for a new batch.

1. Will the new 177L batch be just as good?

If from the same factory. It should be, but my guess it is it can only get better down the road. The case is almost spot on.
The movement does have some notable tells, but maybe not obvious to everyone. It has the swan neck regulator that earlier versions might not. But no beveled edges, just to name one. There're a couple of reviews of the latest 177L, check those out.

2. Will the 005k be just as good of quality and is it a better rep because of the closed caseback? I've read that a lot of the tells come from seeing the movement.

If from the same factory, yes that's probably correct.
That's why the 288 that COLDI recommends is so good.

I am not trying to pass these off as genuine, but part of the rush is finding a rep that is as close to gen as possible! I appreciate everyones input!

I know how you feel. It's the same rush some of us get as well, seeing how close to replication these factories have come.

OP
Both watches are excellent value and are some of the closest-to-the-genuine-reps available without modifications.

The choice of model depends on what you like. IMHO 177 and 005 are very different models.

177 is titanium with a sandwich dial and a display caseback. The Ti finish is brushed making it look more casual/sporty.
005 is Steel with a sausage (painted) dial and a closed case back. The steel is polished.

So choose the one style you like the most

I'd take the 005 any day since the 177 is sold out anyway and God knows when it's going to be in stock. As for the 288 its's a must have for any rep collector

should not be that difficult since they have already repped the 005.

The zero would be awesome, i really like base watches.

I'd take the 005 because of the closed caseback...but I do love the Ti. Hell, buy 'em both, see which you like, sell the one you like less. (then use the funds to buy a 288! )

I think I am going to wait for the 005..I like the closed caseback too, although the 177L is still awesome and I might pick it up on an impulse buy!

I'm quite happy with my 177L. I had no idea these were so limited. Anyhow, the 005 looks like a very nice rep. I'm pretty sure you'll be happy with which ever one you get!
