Hey guys, so I've been looking at luming materials and made contact with a representative from RC Tritec. I inquired about ordering some C3 SL for luming about 4-5 watches and recieved this response...

We thank you for your e-mail and are pleased to quote:

Swiss Super-LumiNova

1 kit GL C3 CHF 44.90
+ postage, insurance CHF 50.00

TOTAL PRICE, CIP Wakefield CHF 94.90 at rate 0.90 = US$ 105.45

Delivery time 1 - 2 days after receipt of your advance payment
Payment

As you can see, the kit is $45 and shipping and insurance is $50!

I then read a post about W4, a newer and stronger lume pigment and inquired if there were W4 kits and the possibility of ordering multiple kits to save on shipping.

Here's the response I got...

We thank you for your e-mail. There is a Super-LumiNova pigment called: Grade A, BL white W4 (blue emission). The price for a kit is CHF 64.95 at rate 0.90 = US$ 72.15.

The shipping cost remain the same if you take up to 4 kits.

So the shipping cost will be $50 divided among how ever many kits we can get for the same cost, possibly more than 4.

Anyone interested in going in for a group buy? The cost for a C3 kit to you would be around $45 + $10 + $5 (shipping from myself to you). So around $60.
The cost for a W4 kit would be under $90 or so.

I also asked her how much luming material comes in each kit and if there was binder or not and what else comes with the kit, but I haven't gotten a response yet.

PLEASE - DO NOT email them asking the same questions. I'll update this post as I find out more. I don't want to lose this opportunity to get our hands on W4.

Let me know if any other member on the board is selling W4 or if you have experience using it, whether you recommend it or not, or if you simply want a kit for yourself.

If we get enough ppl interested, then I can place a group order. For the first order, I am only interested in buying 5 or so kits as I'll be paying for the entire order and then piecing it out to you guys.

Wow, new blue high intensity lume pigment! I wonder if this is the mysterious "chromalight" that Rolex uses?

Sorry, I just came back to the forum so I wasn't aware of that rule. I'll contact Admin right now just to keep everything legit.

So we have

1) Tranman
2) Mendel272
3) Thinkbachs

Quick question guys. According to their charts, W4 (blue) and C3 grade A (blueish green - turquoise?) seems to be on par as far as brightness. Both seem about 25% better than standard C3.

In their first reply, it was for the GL C3 kit. Nothing was mention about it being Grade A, so I assume this is for the standard C3 kit. Unlike their 2nd response, she specifically says Grade A BL white W4 (blue emission).

Are you guys interested in paying a bit more for the W4 kits or would you want me to inquire about the C3 Grade A kits (if they sell them)?

At this point, I'm leaning towards keeping it simple and getting the W4 kits, but will also go with the standard C3 kits if you guys don't want to spend the extra money.

No, the Rolex formula is unique to Rolex, tritec won't sell it.

How the hell did you get Tritec to even talk to you let alone sell anything? Normally they will only deal with qualified watchmakers.

Tran I will let this run but you need to take a $40 deposit at the most with balance payment when the kits are in your hands. These things turn into a nightmare to sort out if it all goes bad.

If the first lot goes thru OK I may allow you take money up front in full for a second batch so cap the first order at 4 for everyone's safety.

The only reason I'm allowing this at all is because it's so hard to get anything out of Tritec.

Thanks Col.! At this point, we don't have anything in hand so nothing is a done deal yet. We have an exchange of emails is all. This is why I don't want folks mass emailing them. But the rep did forward me their banking info so I can wire money when I am ready. I'm not worried about getting money up front b/c this W4 should be like hen's teeth. If someone backs out, then I'll just hold on to the extra's and I'm sure folks will be interested in it once they see the lume shots.

As far as getting them to talk to me, I did read that they only deal with watch companies, certified watchmakers and what not. I contacted Chris from Lum-tech inquiring if he would sell me some of the material they use for their watches. He directed me to Tritec, and I mentioned his name in my email. I was upfront with them telling them that I am interested in material for reluming 4-5 watches. Nothing was mentioned about reps or websites.

I only posted about the group buy so that all involved may benefit from the savings on the shipping. I figured we had some serious lumers on here that might appreciate working with W4.

i want in a well....in like flynn

Ok cool. That makes 4 for the initial order. I received an attached pamphlet on their reluming kit. It contains 1gm varnish, 1gm dilutor, 1gm of lume material, 1 small mixing bowl, 1 glass rod.

I went ahead and requested an invoice for (4) W4 Grade A kits with shipping. I'll make payment later today if I receive the invoice.

WhooHoo! Well done.

Guys, before you play with this stuff you may like to buy some cheap stuff from GloNation to practice with on some old hands and what have you. It's about ten bucks an ounce, not 90 a gram. In fact if you ask Kenny nicely he may tell you the formula he uses to mix the tritec and glonation to get a closer match to the Rolex blue. That way the tritec goes further as well. http://www.glonation.com/glow-powder.html

Quick update. I finally heard back from Tritec a few days ago and made payment today for 4 kits. Tritec doesn't take paypal or CCs. :( My bank charged me $35 to wire the money so that'll be split 4 ways. ;). I'll post up some pics of the kits and some powder lume shots when they come in.

Ok kids, the eagle has landed. The packaged was shipped on 2/14 via priority mail and I received it today on 2/18.

The W4 lume pigment is white and the emission color is more aqua-blue than it is blue. It is suppose to be blue and does look a bit blue-ish in photos but in person it definitely is more aqua. I'm actually pleased about this as I thought I was going to have to mix it with a bit of C3 to get the aqua blue color.

Again, the true color is slightly more green than what shows up in the photos. If anyone has the WL-Aqua lume pigment from [email protected], it is almost the same color except brighter and LONGER lasting than the WL-Aqua.

Not sure if my PMs are going through or not. Please speak up if you want your kits. If not, I'll pass them on to anyone else interested.
