I hear different answers each time. Who is the gold standard right now, if you had to choose for DateJust? Particularly Wimbledon dial

Here is a thread that YOU should be able to make a decision on what YOU think is the gold standard right now.
Movements found in Rolex watches.
All the information you need is on those two threads above. In the end it's your money and you will be the one wearing the watch.

What a long winded way to ask what the best Datejust is.

Stock - go VS
If you can swap the crystal - Clean

If you want any more nuance than that, need to do your own research. There's way more nuance to Datejusts than what I just said but you'll never know or care unless you put in the heavy lifting to invest into noticing them.

Exactly, to my eyes my VSF Datejust blue dial, steel bezel, Jubilee was perfect (a friend persuaded me to sell it to him).

There are people here who will argue hands and indices are a tell (they should be white gold), so for sure the fluted bezel (which is white gold in gen) is a easy tell.

It's your decision as you are the one buying If I said its Clean and another Guy says it VSF and so do many others then its like saying I like a Gin and Tonic and the other guy prefers Vodka and coke. Each opinion is different and might be swayed by others who have pointed out minor differences from discussion post like have been suggested.

End of the day its your money and you gotta look at it so look at either brand and then look at the gen and see the differences you can spot and pick one as the key to what you are really asking is which is the closet to the gen!

Buy one try it, if you dont like it keep it in good condition and sell it on here for a little less than you paid for it and go for the other one, or better still buy both look at them side by said and pick one and sell the other for a minimal loss on the sales thread (does depend on the model you pick to buy though as some models are more in demand, two tones are never that in demand as the gold is often a tell!)

Good luck

as far as I understood, the new Clean builds are more accurate as they updated the color around the DW, the crystal and the bezel. I am looking for a DJ36 smooth bezel and jubilee, but still can not decide which factory to go and which dial colour :D ... I understood the blue and green have a different sunburst then the gen. So I am considerung black or silver. However, the silver might be a bit too shiny for me.

Have both, and clean is better. vsf has wack lugs and loose jubilee. Only thing better on the vsf Is movement, crystal and maybe dial.
Took Crystal off my vsf and slapped it on clean.

So, the actual bit that keeps time and just about everything you can see?

A friend of a friend of mine has a gen OP, he's held and worn my VSF Datejust, he doesn't know me at all, we've met once, he has no idea it's not gen.
Gen owners are rubbish at picking out faults, this guy was on the wait list for a 36mm DJ, that's how the whole conversation started, my mate to him, "isn't that what you're after?" motioning to my DJ, "yeah, but 36mm, I've got like 6" wrists", at which point I passed it to him.
He took his OP off, put it on, clicked the clasp closed and didn't even blink. It never occurred to him it wasn't gen.

Well just cuz the vsf movement is better for its finish, doesn't mean that cleans is bad. You make it sound like clean is missing its movement and dial. And the dial is not the only thing u see, and isn't so different from vsfs anyway.
And just cuz some bloke with a gen cant tell your vsf is fake doest mean jack.

How’s the weight on each? Was leaning towards a clean because of the VS3235 movement, but I know see ARF has a weighted version out there. Not familiar with ARF and can’t find any reviews out there, so might stick with the Clean/VSF if the weight is there.

Oh stop, the weight on all VSF/Clean steel Rolex is perfect, maybe one gram (in 120-230) from the missing gold hands and indices.
