VSF Question: Do Serials Really Matter?

Hi everyone: I’ve been researching VSF Subs and I’ve come across some discussion about various serial numbers. I gather that there are some differences between Q66 and previous iterations for example, but are those differences substantial enough to warrant specifically requesting a Q66 over a previous version? In other words, do changes to serials indicate significant changes to construction or design?
