Just a clarification, TS Watch is no longer a TD here. Second, either the ad is inaccurate or the movement on the watch is wrong, as the PAM389 uses the P.9000 movement, not the P.9001 (it has no GMT nor PR gauge so it does not need it). So to suggest using the V2 P.9001 movement for a P.9000 watch would make it just as inaccurate, even if the V2 P.9001 included the functions found in the gen.

Regardless, why so quick to dismiss this version? It's new so I'm sure Puretime or InTime etc will have it soon as well.

If you made a post specifically about this model by XF I would assume you have general interest in the Best Pam389 as a whole, and if this is a new model that came out I figured we'd have more curiosity than disregard.

Plus, your pictorial review on the XF was before it even came out, and the past models seemed to have inaccuracies of their own so there is still a search for the best version.

Isn't VSF a solid factory for Pams? And if it's just a typo shouldn't we still be interested in the accuracy of the build of this watch anyway? There's a lot of people including myself interested in the "best/super rep" version of the 389 and it seems the XF and VSF are the newest versions out.

Sorry if my tone sounds confrontational, but you are a respected/experienced member and I'm just surprised with the quick disregard of this new model and no real follow up reviews on the XF after it came out.

Did I disregard this model? No I did not. I made two statements, one about the dealer and another about the ad copy on watch. I could not find a single picture of the exposed movement on the ad, so I could not specifically point out that it was a typo. Yes VSF is a solid factory, it doesn't mean it's infallible. I cannot make any pronouncements either for nor against the watch as I don't have any pictures of that particular version. So I did not dismiss it, but neither do I endorse it.

I hear you, but I meant disregard of how this version looks. You only commented on the potential inaccuracy or typo on its movement, but nothing about how it looks. Usually that's one of first things we look for when rating reps, their visual accuracy compared to Gen, so I meant disregard in that manner. Regarding photos, @CybNoX just added several close up large photos two posts above yours you can check out.

I also saw your great post on the XF which looked good, but I couldn't find any follow up on anyone's experience with the released version or update from your original post. Is there any new info on the XF or thoughts you have on the VSF? Ale's guide is great but of course doesn't have every model.

BTW are XF and VSF different factories? So many name changes its hard to keep up.

They are the same factory. The XF apparently was never released, and is now replaced by the VSF version. Other than the addition of the magnetic cover on the movement, there is no difference that I could see, nothing is better nor worse. Hence no comment to be made. To say that I disregarded the release is equivalent to disregarding how seriously I treat my reviews/statements. I don't just come out and say "wow this is the greatest rep since sliced bread" or "this rep is the worst".

This is my worry about providing pictures of models that are just coming out, there is the potential of these watches not being released, then I get criticized for not providing "updates". Now I know how Angus of puretime feels and I understand why he's become so silent with new releases as of late. So even though I was given a heads up of upcoming PAMs, with pictures, I have decided to temporarily discontinue this practice. Anyway, lots of other members provide pictures of the watches when they are released so my reviews will not be missed.

@mysterio, you always have been a great help and i held in high regards. perhaps, just misunderstanding of perspective.

here's a photo of the movement.
View attachment 79111

anyway, i was just hoping that they will upgrade the movement to a V2, similar to what they had done to the P9001

find it hard to understand that they had done the more complicated one of 9001, why not use the knowledge to replicate the hour hand change function and thinner movement, aren't these simplier than the p9001v2 with GMT and faux powe r gauge? but then again, me no watch maker... lol

@mysterio @CybNoX Looks like they now have it listed on Toro as a custom P9000 movement. (http://www.tb-688.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=2641)

I guess the jury is out on this one for now, but would you consider the 1389 an equal alternative and is there a super rep version of it out? I haven't seen/worn the 1389 in person (I've tried the Gen 389), but at first glance I don't like the blue second hand as much as the neutral 389's hand. Also thinner so not sure about what kind of wrist presence it has in comparison. I'll go to the local Panerai store when I get back in town and get some shots/impressions for us.

I am in no position to pass a judgement

I haven't grew to like the new case sets yet, i prefer the thicker lugs but that's just me - old school.

The 1389 is thinner than 389? Do you know by how much, more or less?
