Hi all,

Anyone know if the VSF movement issue has been resolved?

Really wanted the VSF Omega planet Ocean 39.5mm but don't want to end up with a dead watch after a year!

Seen a thread of an owner suffering the crown issue and got me paranoid.

Replica oblivion…
Are you referring to a movement issue or a crown and crown tube issue ?
A from my own personal experience VSF Omega movements are best in class with limited issues ( as a general rule - individual issues will vary )

The crown and crown tube quality from VSF is nothing short of rubbish. I have had 3 x VSF Omega reps and all have suffered from crown stripping. I’m not rough with my watches and always very careful on how I operate the crown. Despite my delicate efforts , all 3 watches suffered from stripped crown / tube assemblies.

I would continue not to trust any VSF / SBF screw down crown assemblies on their Omega reps. Opinions may differ here but that is my personal recent experience. I have the SBF ultra deep in the black / blue and would love to get their recent black / orange release but after the crown stripping on my black/ blue rep……there is little chance I will fork out for another one.

Crown issues are not movement issues.

Can you specify or point at a thread where there are crown issues?

VSF movements, as @Teamjlf has stated, are amongst the best in the industry. Reliable and extremely accurate.

Just get a ZF if it scares you that much, people treat the replica game too seriously and are worried about it all the time, if you like it, buy iy

Let me just tell you if you seriously dip your toes into reps : things will go wrong, not everything will go perfect, and you just have to accept it, otherwise go gen (and even gen has issues lol)

Of course you won't get perfection, but with a crown issue where the threads get eaten away eventually leaving with you with a dead watch is not ideal tbh.

I don't expect a perfect Omega rep but I do at least expect the mechanicals to last especially when paying those sorts of money for a good rep and not those cheapie market stall reps (mind you, they last forever 🤣)

I bought a random IWC rep, no idea of the model, about 12 years ago from Egypt for £20! Back then I didn't care about anything, just liked the look but it's still going strong lol

Additionally, if the VSF threads strip you can always just snip the stem to make the watch no longer screw down.

The watch/stem will function but tradeoff with no water resistance (which is completely ok with me). There's always a solution for everything.

Then get a ZF and forget about VSF if that's what you want.

Bear in mind ZF has some trade offs like a unidirectional rotor instead of bidirectional, worse crystal clarity, etc, but ZF has no issues with thread stripping. And the lume color is better than VS.

Didn't know that can be done?

I never wear my watches in water so I'm also good with that!

Help me haha

Reason for my post is I'd love the Planet Ocean in 39.5mm but only VSF produce them! But as you said, it's a simple fix so may just take the gamble

Yes, tell watch maker to trim stem carefully so that the crown sits flush with case in the winding position. New stems are cheap since this is 2824. There are some threads about it if you search "VS Seamaster stem shortening".

I haven't heard of Planet Ocean having too much stripping issues but I could be wromg.

I had this done on my SBF / VSF ultra deep. Works perfectly fine with no more screw down or stripping issues. Not ideal as it’s nice to have the original screw down function but at least it works faultlessly now.

Love this!

Was it an easy job for the watch smith? Got a few round where I live but no doubt I'll be on this forum crying for help anyway :)
