Vote Rolex Big Crown 6538 Build

hey hey, im looking at big crown parts online. I had a mq dial/case in the past. Out of all my reps/frankens that mq was my favorite watch so I'm looking to re-create that magic with a new build. Planning on putting a powermatic 80 movement in there.


I really like these big crown models. The coin edge bezel is really cool. I've seen some that are brass and others silver. I've only been checking them out for a couple days, and since there's a lot of options, I've been photoshopping dials with inserts to try to figure out my favorite combo. What do you guys think looks the best out of these?


Also, I've seen a couple online with what looks like a sub insert. Any advice on using a sub insert? (white triangle with the marks going up to 15. Any advice on that? I like the blue tint... anyway thanks for reading

My fave out of those options is 4. Definitely prefer the earlier insert without minute marks, and the simple two-liner gilt negative relief dial. It encapsulates the clean, minimal look of a big crown Sub. Utterly classic!

The red triangle is gorgeous. Is there a good rep insert available? That would be decisive if I was building one.

no.4 has been my top pick as well, you make some good points. Do you happen to know if these viet dials contain radium? I did a bunch of reading last night and I don't want to get wrist cancer from building a pretty watch...

I could only find one insert set on ebay and they didn't look great, plus im not sure it'll even fit. The inserts I shopped in are available on MQ's website so I figured I better get the one I like up front. Last time i bought from him I had him replace the insert in the case with one from the website, that made it easy peasy.
