My second time in Shanghai this year, I made another pass through the Fake Mart.
As you approach you'll get someone who (like it or not) attached themselves to you to escort you to the best deals.
Picked up a fun Panerai Radiomir Black Seal - a little bit of a Franken watch to my untrained eye, but fun none-the-less.

Oh, you've got to be prepared to bargain hard, be friendly, but hold your ground.
They started at US$290, got it for $74.

The only obvious thing wrong to my noob eye is that the sub dial (seconds) is too far from the "9" position.

It has a lot more obvious tells than just the seconds placement but as long as you're happy it's only thing that matters. :)

This is my fourth visit to China this year and I managed another visit to the Shanghai Fake Mart.

Once again I was approached by a young fellow offering watches - he took me to another "secret stockroom" behind a wall in a luggage store.
He started in with the absurd prices so I showed him a picture of my Omega Speedmaster I got on Aliexpress for $80 and told him the price. That got him down to some more realistic prices.
Then I showed him my Parnis that looks like an IWC Topgun - that intrigued him and he gave me a trade in (!) on a Quartz Topgun rep.

As I was leaving he started to reconsider the deal he made and started asking for more money (I've got to eat - me too I said). No more coin for him but I promised I'd be back someday and buy some more pieces.
Here's some pix from his secret shop:

He had a pretty neat Porsche Design piece - but it was just too awkward for me. Here are two pictures with it in the open and closed positions.

After wandering around a bit more with my new treasure - and getting hit on by every merchant I walked by (I was clearly the fresh meat in town) I finally relented and looked at some watches; nothing there was of interest but they did have a thick catalog laying out with thousands of different watches. Unfortunately I didn't spot any prices - but the catalog did have my exact Speedmaster on the cover.

As I left that store, the owner being pissed that I didn't buy any of his crap a women said "you want good watch" and she schlepped me to her brother's store, which looked to be an abandoned store front. Ends up I think he was the local distributor of sorts and I bought this Quartz Navitimer - at a price that he lamented meant he wouldn't be eating today.
Overall another fun adventure.

If you believe those guys there are 10s of 1000s of merchants going hungry in China.
That in fact may well be the case but it ain't those guys!

And the adventure, as it comes to an end - continues.
I decided that after wearing the Breitling it was too damn busy for me. The actual timekeeping area was too small because of the space taken up by the circular slide rule which frankly is virtually useless.
I was in Chongqing (all the smog of Peking but with even worse drivers) over the weekend and was passing through Shanghai on my way back to the states. I had gotten the sellers (actually his sister's) business card and he told me it had a 5 year warranty (yeah, haha).
Now his store front looks like an abandoned store - but there is constantly a stream of people going through there, escorted by various agents.
Anyway, as I'm trying to locate the place (good trick) I bump into his sister and she brings me in there and they agree to exchange it for another of like value.
I must have looked through 50+ watches which had no appeal to me until I came upon a Speedmaster - she said that it was a better quality and would cost a bit more - as I was getting ready for the red hot poker of BS she told me it would cost another 50 RMB (about US$8).
I didn't even bother with the requisite eye roll and price negotiations- I told that would be fine.
So, out with the Brietling and in with the Omega.
Then, as I was looking around (and getting accosted) I bumped into the kid that I traded my Topgun looking Parnis to. He was sporting along with a leather strap.
As crazy a place this is the people are generally fairly nice, though persistent and rather fun to joke around with.
Now time to blow this town 'til next time.

So, you ever get that call from your boss saying on your way home we need you stop by a customer for a quick visit?

Except I live in Boston, I'm in Shanghai and the customer is in Brisbane Australia.
Time to pump up the miles (mate).

That is so true. Thanks for sharing OP. These pictures make me realise how good RWI is for noobs and the best quality that Cn reps have to offer.
