Hi guys,

Apologies if this isn't the right thread, as I'm not looking to expose any scammer. Nevertheless, I still have questions about the authenticity of some of these watches in particular.

So I have been recently looking into this Japanese auction site (or the english proxy for it) that deals with many items, some being legit watches, and others selling items like this Now I know this isn't the best place to be looking for watches, gen or rep, but I did find some interesting stuff I feel like is worth taking a look at, rep or gen.

I've recently been looking into some vintage Tudor submariners as some of them caught my eye with their extremely low asking price. Now I am fully aware that when dealing with low priced items like this, it is always too good to be true, and I'm most likely looking at either replicas or heavily modified vintage watches. The more important question for me is, how authentic are these tudor subs? Are the dials genuine? The bracelet? The biggest indicator for me that these are at the very least, frankenwatches, is the movement. Here are some 3 links to watches I'm looking at:

https://www.jauce.com/auction/g451511778

https://www.jauce.com/auction/q393792037

https://www.jauce.com/auction/j650238039

It's been a while since I've done any reading up on vintage watch models, and I would definitely appreciate any sort of input or details on these watches. At this point I'm almost certain that they're frankenwatches, but like I said before, I'm more or less interested on how much of these watches are genuine and how much of these watches have been swapped/faked. The going prices of these appear to be anywhere from 50,000-180,00 Japanese Yen, which equates to around $1500 USD, which I think is usually what frankenwatches on this forum go for.

Another thing I would have to point out, is that these sellers have put a disclaimer that the watch is not fully original, so it is clear that there is no malicious intentions with selling these timepieces. I am just curious on what parts of this watch, if any is authentic. Even if they are frankenwatches, they would make unique/cheaper subs that I'd definitely like to have on the wrist, but any advice would be totally appreciated, thanks!

Interesting. I used to use Japanese proxy/ auction sites (many years ago), but never for watches, and I never stumbled upon this site. Having had a quick look, they don’t appear right at all to me, but I’m an absolute novice here. tripdog will be able to tell you immediately what these are. Might help to paste a few screen grabs here in this thread in addition to the links you’ve already left above.

Great Idea, Thanks! Since starting this post, I've been doing some endless searching on these particular models, closely looking at reference models and movements, and while some things appear to be right, other details seem to be out of line:

This one probably confuses me the most. While there is no reference number attached to this listing, I've never seen this rotor ever before in any model I've come across

This picture here too, also kind of confusing as well. The listing says this is a ref. 7928, and the dial looks pretty good to me, but the movement and caseback number is off (I'm not sure if the 4 digit caseback interior engraving is the ref. number). My biggest question with this one is the movement and rotor. The movement in particular, looks way to decorated for this particular model, but this kind of detailing is where my surface knowlege of vintage tudor models falls off. The rotor looks kind of alright to me. I've seen that rotor in some 7928 models, but not very much.

I also found another listing here: https://www.jauce.com/auction/j650238039

This one confuses me, because it's another 7928, and there is an image of the serial, but after doing more light searching, the serial seems a bit too late for a 7928 ref #. Some clarification on this would be very much appreciated.

These are just some of the details that seem out of line. More images can be found in those links. I know especially with tudor submariners, a lot of parts such as the pearl, bezel insert, and even dial/hands can be replaced often as many of these watches have been through alot, but these type of differences seem a bit more odd and I would like to know exactly if anything has been swapped or something worse?

Thanks!

I didn't read all the OP (too wordy), didn't look at all the watches at auction, but what I did look at were all low end junk with at best a gen movement/gen rotor.

Never ever buy at auction unless you have excellent knowledge of the subject.
