Back in ninteen-hundred-and-frozen-to-death, when Panerai were starting out, they designed the 47mm Radiomir case - and put a Rolex face and movement in it.

Joshua now offers a rep of this watch for a silly price - so I ordered one. It arrived here today, nine days after despatch. An acceptable delay.

I have no idea how close - or otherwise - this watch is to the original. But it is a safe bet that nobody you meet will know either, so wear it and enjoy. If you are the type who enjoys beating-up vintage reps to make them look old, tie it to a piece of string and tow it behind your car for a mile or two. At this price, you can afford to make mistakes.

Here it is:

I have to comment on the strap. it is the softest, most comfortable, strap that I have ever received on a rep. Seems to be somethng like Nubuck. For once, I don't have to wait for a hand-made strap to arrive before I dare to wear the watch in public. I'll probably replace it sometime... no rush. Nice dome-headed fake (screw-together) rivets, too. Better than some that the hand-made strap experts provide.

The watch has a plexi crystal, of course. So don't expect AR coating

But it does look quite moody in dim light:

In dim light, don't expect the lume to shine like a beacon. It doesn't. The hands have standard rep lume, the markers - which look a bit flat - even less.

But in the dark, who cares?

Here's the wrist shot:

I ordered the same watch from Andrew, I would assume it is from the same maker. Looking forward to getting it.

How is the crown?

I almost bought one like that from a fellow member (Davidsen's version quite a bit more expensive though) that is a great deal and an awesome watch, enjoy it.

Are those fixed wire lugs?

That same strap came on my "vintage" Radiomir Cali dial that I bought from Josh. You're right, it's damn nice (if a bit thin) for a rep strap.

How long is the strap on these..???
I'd order one immediately if I could be sure that it would fit my 8.5" wrist!!

I dunno, Frank. I think you'd probably be out of luck on that one. My wrists are only 7.5" and I don't remember that strap being overly long.

However, you could send it off to tootall and have him build a custom strap onto the watch. I know he's done this for other customers with fixed lug watches. Or you could check out Jurgens on the panaristi.com or viapaneristi.com websites in the accessories area. He/they make vintage straps with the screw/rivet style attachements.

well, I just got mine today and I immediately took some 3M scotchbrite and emery cloth to the case to make it look old. I also discovered that it has springbars between the lugs, so really you can insert any strap onto the watch.

Pete, can you snap a couple of pics of this? I'm having a hard time imagining how you would get the springbars back on with the strap....
