Back in ninteen-hundred-and-frozen-to-death, when Panerai were starting out, they designed the 47mm Radiomir case - and put a Rolex face and movement in it.
Joshua now offers a rep of this watch for a silly price - so I ordered one. It arrived here today, nine days after despatch. An acceptable delay.
I have no idea how close - or otherwise - this watch is to the original. But it is a safe bet that nobody you meet will know either, so wear it and enjoy. If you are the type who enjoys beating-up vintage reps to make them look old, tie it to a piece of string and tow it behind your car for a mile or two. At this price, you can afford to make mistakes.
Here it is:
I have to comment on the strap. it is the softest, most comfortable, strap that I have ever received on a rep. Seems to be somethng like Nubuck. For once, I don't have to wait for a hand-made strap to arrive before I dare to wear the watch in public. I'll probably replace it sometime... no rush. Nice dome-headed fake (screw-together) rivets, too. Better than some that the hand-made strap experts provide.
The watch has a plexi crystal, of course. So don't expect AR coating
But it does look quite moody in dim light:
In dim light, don't expect the lume to shine like a beacon. It doesn't. The hands have standard rep lume, the markers - which look a bit flat - even less.
But in the dark, who cares?
Here's the wrist shot:
