FROM THE ASHES
After building the hell out of it I inevitably had to slow down building 3646's... I do really have quite a few of these and it is not easy to find the inspiration every time, but the fire is still burning under the ashes and a few projects are slowly coming to life.
It took me a few years to collect the parts for this special build. In the meantime I was building other stuff and learning learning learning. I will never thank enough the HF family for helping me make my dream collection come true
As it often happened the corner stone in this build is the exceptional dial Bigwaved made for me. Check out the dark brown tropical patina and the perfection of the cracked indices...
I stored it for maybe 2-3 years while I was slowly pondering and collecting the other parts, waiting for each piece of the puzzle to come together.
Here is the parts list:
Esdee type D case set
Asian 6497 (I know many would have favoured more precious movements, but I always liked A6497 reliability)
River steel blued hands
Bigwaved dial
Bakeka strap with custom bronze buckle
Of course finding the right alignment for the dial seat was a bit tricky but River hands have a little neck that helped me get a proper fitting, together with a H3 set for the 6497 movement.
As usual with my builds a lot of work went towards aging and refinishing. Multiple layers of aging were added and removed in order to get the closest match I could get for a truly battered but still elegant 3646. Matches very well with the nice aged piece of leather hide my friend Alfio used for the strap and with the naturally patinated bronze buckle I dug up from the bottom of my drawers.
Here are some more pics for you:
Hope you guys enjoyed and don't forget to keep the flame burning!
