So guys, had to share this... was at a garage sale and there was this old dusty chest in the corner that I noticed. Looked like an old nautical chest that had not been opened for years, so I opened it up and amongst a few old beads, compasses, photos of wild animals and old maps (of what looked like 19th century east coast of Africa) I stumbled across this piece! Looked old, must be made of bronze or brass or something I think...
It was just the watch head though, the strap that was mounted was old and falling apart, made of canvas and clearly had not fared too well over the past century... - but I negotiated with the seller anyway and bought it. At home I cleaned it up a bit and then went out to my barn out back and cut a piece of leather off an old saddle from the 1950's to make a strap.
I've never seen a piece like this before.
I'm not sure what I should call it but since it was in a box with photos of animals and a map of Africa I think Im going to call it "Safari" and I think I will call the custom made strap "AP bands".
What do you think?
