Well many moon's ago I read Guille's project on one of the gen forums and I was inspired. However, I really did not care too much for the rolex movement. I really wanted an Angelus 8 day. I wanted one BAD. So I started looking and it took a LONG time. Then I came across two of them and I knew I needed to jump. This is where enzo came in at first. We both wanted one bad so I figgured that we could each take one and perhaps he would be kind enough to make mine in a watch.

Well this was more then 1/2 a year ago now and I finaly have my beauty in hand.

This is what inspired me...

Since I already had a destro MM I thought I would go righty on this one. Let me tell you this. If you have read Guille's story, mine is the same. This is a very hard project and anyone who was able to make this movt work in a watch has learned a lot through trial and error. enzo was kind enough to make a very special strap for my project watch as well.

I need to thank Davidsen as well as his vintage parts were inspired by enzo's suggestions and our needs for this project watch.

Here are some photos.

Once was a clock.

Then just a movement (note that the alarm knocker was removed).

bloody gorgeous!

Absolutely stunning: hands down the best watch on the board, IMO. I know an enormous amount of effort went into this one.

enzo: you have outdone yourself! Big, nay, massive props [smilie=thumbsup.gif]
Thanks also for listing all the bits in this one.

CJ: I heard how amazed you are that this 'clock' just goes and goes - the Paris Hilton watch :D
Nah, that does the 8 Days a disservice; it's way too elegant to be compared to PH

Can't wait to see this one for real later this year. Nicely shot too CJ.

Many best wishes to both of you as I understand it was a coordinated effort.

ps the strap sounds interesting enzo, pls let me know.

Thanks Brad. You will get to try it on this summer.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that the fact that it is an 8 day movement is SICK. It runs and runs and runs and runs and runs.

Good to see the whole watch in this project! I remember those first two movements too, you got the SF240 and I landed a SF195!

The parts list on this thing is so awesome. Like you say, couldn't have done it without Davidsen's watch part inventory. Specially modified DSN 6152/1 case with lug-end engravings, DSN Ital. Brev. signed and variation numbered CG. DSN Lovely phat crown, phat DSN spring pins, DSN Tropic Perspex top and bottom, enzo Angelus Modified DSN etched, enzo filled indice/lumed dial. Gen Angelus oversized flat gold handset - lumed to match dial. Circa 1949 recycled military leather enzo bridle strap [cool imprint not shown] spring pinned GPF flat style buckle with "forced" curve - - oh, almost forgot, Circa 1940's Angelus SF240 stem wind alarm movement :) I knew there was some other, main feature ...
Dear Enzo,
I see you helped this guy with his project. I don't know why you don't want to help me with this project.
I already bought an Angelus Movement and I really need your precious help for that project. I really need someone to help me putting my movement into a real watch, I need some suggestions, I really hope you can help me like you helped this guy.
Thanks

enzo and I have been friends long before this project came up. In fact it is our third joint project together. I think he was more interested to help me as I found two movements and he got to have one of them.

what I found is that once I started wearing an 8 Day, when I'd occassionally go back and wear a regular hand winder, I forget to wind it and so shift back to the 8 Day after it runs down, of course the 8 Day is still working; an auto will not do this. The 8 Day has it's own personality.

This suggets that you mainly where 8 Days now - guess you should given the effort!

Wow it looks great after all the effort and passion going to it's making. I wonder how much is the total cost of the project, minus the time and effort put in?

The cost on this type of project must be measured in blood and sweat. Mere dollars mean nothing.

True - heard some of the war stories. Not easily brought to fruition, hence enzo's very pertinent post on Angelus economicus

Beautiful watch!

I am just curious if the original watches with the Angelus movements gave Panerai as much trouble with fitting?

Is it a case of retro-fitting a movement, that is essentailly one that was used by panerai (the 240), but which came from a different application (an alarm clock in this example) and may not be in the exact configuration that works for a wristwatch?

Not trying to be a wisea** but just trying to understand why the movement is such a bear to get into the case and work as a watch if it was one that was actually used in Panerai watches in the past. Maybe it's the size of current repro cases and parts?

Thanks,

CISO

That´s a very accurate and wise remark!

The time, skill, resources and effort one of these projects consumes is unbelievable.

If I had to estimate the amount spent on my 6156/1 project - with results far from this wonder you are showing us - I would stress immediatelly!

Man, these are amazing results! Congrats for your watch.

The only thing I would point out is, IMHO, the numerals on Davidsen dials are far too fat and you should insist with him on having a dial correctly done. That would be the cherry on top!

Wear the watch well!

Cheers,
Marco
