Hello,

I'm going to take you on a little journey of how my 16014 build came to be.
First of all, as some of you know, my forte is finding parts. I can't re-shape or polish cases, nor do I have any expertise in watchmaking.
And I love vintage watches. So watches that are not necessarily the hyped pieces in the rep business.
My focus here is clearly Rolex watches and there also the so-called Sporties.
But the classic of Rolex par excellence is the DateJust. Everybody who deals with mechanical watches knows this watch.
And the DateJust has not changed much since 1945. The principle always remained the same. A 36 mm case, a clear dial with 3 hands, the second hand as center second. And a date. Well, in the beginning, the DateJust didn't have a magnifying glass to magnify the date and the hands had a different shape. But a DateJust can always be recognized as a DateJust.
The most beautiful DateJust from my point of view have a Plexi Crystal, whereby beauty does not equate to qualitatively durable.
And the 16000 series DateJust have a modern caliber, the 3035, which is much easier to service today than the previously used, also very robust and stable 15** as spare parts of the elder 15** caliber are becoming more and more rare.
Both are beautiful. The difference between the two calibers is that the 3035 oscillates at 28800 bpm (the 15** oscillates at 21600 bpm) and has a Quick Date Set mechanism.

But well, that's information on the so-called "Real Deals", i.e. Authentic Rolex watches. In the area of builds, anything can be done, albeit with some effort. But my claim is always to stay as close to the original as possible, so I decided to build in a clone movement and go this way. Although there is no 3035 clone movement, the 3135 is unfortunately only a good compromise here.

I’m using the well known SK case here, a genuine silver Dial, real Tritium hands, a real whitegold fluted bezel and a VR 3135 movement. The open 6/9 Datewheel is just a overlay, crown and tube are rep. The Crystal is a Sternkreuz.

Some parts are still missing, but hey, that’sa journey.

Pics will come in the next post

SK is a synonym for South Korea.

OK, thanks. I've thought about building a 16234, but I couldn't get past the thought of spending around $1000 or more.

Very nice! Looking forward to see the finished build. I got a question to your Datewheel overlay. I tried it two times to glue a overlay to a 3135 movement. In my case the hight of the original datewheel and the overlay was to big. So it doesn't rotate anymore. What ist your trick to get it right?

Best

A friend did the Datewheel overlay work. Generally it is sanding both, the original date disc and the overlay.

Looking forward to seeing the finished build. Crisp looking watch. Are you going to use an aftermarket bracelet, or a genuine bracelet?

No decision has been made for now. I can go both ways. On the one hand I have a used Gen bracelet without a clasp and with a lot of stretch, on the other hand I have a perfect Italian bracelet.

What kind of Italian bracelet? Is the stainless steel good quality?

markiemark from here runs group buys from time to time for those high quality Italian bracelets. There are several available. Sent him a PM and you'll get more details on those bracelets.

For all others: here is a first preview of the complete watch
