Hello Panny forum!

In my never ending quest to source interesting oem straps for myself and fellow members i came across a few examples that you don't see everyday. I have attached a few pics below that i sourced from the interwebs. My questions are:

1. Would you wear these straps, are they desirable?

2. Is there any interest in straps made to fit deployants?

3. What is your holy grail of Pam straps?

Thanks in advance for your opinions, i promise to put them to good use  .

Hi SD
The Green Canvas is special and suitable for PAM 300. But since the width lug is 27 you can install it in Radiomir PAM 292 if you want it.

PAM300-deficopiar.jpg

Panerai collectors have been longing for a re-edition of the Panerai Mare Nostrum for years. In 2010 year their dream came true as Panerai presented the 2010 Special Edition PAM 300 at the Geneva SIHH.
The original Mare Nostrum is one of Panerai's most rare watches. It was designed for deck officers of the Italian Navy in 1943. The watch however, due to events in the war, never made the intended production process and - as far as documented - only three prototypes were made. It was unknown what happened to these three prototypes and all documentation was lost when Florence was flooded in the sixties, until one of the watches was offered for sale at Christies in 2005. Officine Panerai bought the watch for their museum for the sum of 85,000 Euro.
Panerai did already reproduce the Mare Nostrum in 1993 but the new 2010 PAM 300 is made to more exactly meet the specifications of the original Mare Nostrum. The case of the PAM 300 has the same shape and size (52mm) as the original and the dial looks very similar. Except that Tritium was used on the indices of the original watch. The watch - like the original - has a Two levels dial. The color of the luminova on the new PAM 300 does seem to match the color of the original watch quite closely. Panerai did a great job on the olive green canvas strap too.
The PAM 300 has a Panerai OP XXV movement - based on a Minerva movement. The original Mare Nostrum had an Angelus movement. You can admire the beautiful movement through the crystal case back. The original Mare had a closed case back.
The Minerva based movement is visible through the case back crystal
The aforementioned earlier reproductions of the Mare Nostrum are the Pre-Vendome 5218-301/A (10 prototypes in 1993, the 5218-302 Slytech Mare Nostrum (50 units with a blue dial in 1995) and the 5218-304 (50 units with a plain bezel in 1995). All three models have an ETA based movement and a 42mm case. Although these watches are based on the looks of the original Mare Nostrum they weren't designed using the specifications or measurements of the original 1942 chronograph.
Although the PAM 300 is a beautiful and unique collectors item with its 52mm case, this is not exactly a watch that many people can actually wear.
The replica is fitted with a good Venus 75 manual movement, trying to match the Minerva, but with the display caseback it is quite inaccurate. We should consider it like only an interesting watch.

Awesome info, your reference thread is amazing btw.

Glad to see you guys like the straps.

What about deployant straps, do people seek those out?

id do all of them! love that canvas!

That sounds a little rude:wub:Lol

I would love to get my hands on a Jv, just like the one you had forsale mate, I think you would sell quite a few Gen Asso straps if you can get, and at a good price also.

Funny you should mention the JV because i sold an additional one in 26mm to another forum member. I love those straps.

The Asso's have been noted, they are quite in demand, but nothing is impossible.

And sorry to ask again, but is there no interest in oem straps that fit deployants? I know most reps are tang, but i am still curious if there is any demand.

The problem with deployment buckle straps is they mostly have to be rather thin, so a nice thick strap to match your Pam is normally out.

In my opinion the very best straps out there are 6152/1 #74 vintage straps. There are tons out there and most are outstanding. They look great on every Pam. Even modern chrono Pams.

Hey frigpig,

I completely agree that the #74 straps are outstanding and look good on anything they fit.

Regarding the deployant straps, you are saying they are less popular because they have to be thinner, less chunky, and therefore are less desirable, correct?

I agree with this statement. any strap 4-5mm or thinner is a no go for me

.......and won't fit in a standard deployment buckle. That's why I don't have any.

The thinnest strap I have is a 4mm Gunny that feels sooo thin but goes with the watch.

I also find the oem deployant straps too thin at the end ; have owned jv for tang and jv for deployant and there was a big difference in the overall feel and how they wore

I mainly like aftermarket because I prefer some tail which oem never provides

Interesting oem recently switched to 125/75 I am certain because owners want a little tail

Those look very nice, would be interested in some longer straps if you get any.

Awesome feedback guys . . . i will surely keep away from deployant straps while keeping and eye out for longer straps in general.

Best,
