Noobie post.

Having studied the forums, I am in the process of ordering an ultimate 111E from Angus. I think this appears to represent a good first purchase. I see that the 111H has "superlume" whereas the 111E does not. Any views as to whether or not the watch needs it and if so, where do I go to get it sorted? I am UK based.

Well, I'm wearing my Angus Ultimate 111E right now, though I'll be dropping it in the mail to vaccum later today. Yes, it needs a relume simply to tone down the green-ness of the markers, if nothing else. The luminous properties on these dials is only marginally better than what I would call standard rep lume.

As to where in the UK to get it done, I'm afraid I'm of no help there. Given his recent history, I wouldn't think of suggesting Finepics. I'm afraid I don't know of any other modders in EU that I would send my watches to. I know I couple of chaps that I wouldn't send stuff to, but that's not helpful to you, either.

Alright, European members, who does the work on your watches?

You *could* send your stuff to vaccum or ziggy, but it would mean increased shipping time.

Vacuum (States) or Ziggy (Canada) or RepAustria as Ssurfer suggested in Europe.
Actually, now with absence of Mark (Finepics) in UK for luming work, RepAustria is just about the only European modder/lumer I'd feel comfortable with. I've seen the "work" of other so called "modders" from Europe and it's not only appaling but sometimes insulting. :x

These three guys for sausage dial relumes, with addition of FFlav for sandwiches (as he doesn't lume sausage/painted dials, yet)

cheers,
babola

Completly agree with you. Unfortunetly for me, one of the so called EU "modders", destroyed my 005 few months ago.

It's scratches, not dust

So for saussage dial, only go with the master !!!!

Proximity is no reason to compromise on something as critical as the relume of a sausage dial.

To me, the absolute best is Kent Parks, at Everestwatchworks.com in Phoenix:

...and he's very reasonably priced.

@Golfman: sorry to read that, mate. Naming the modder might be help to EU members (please PM me if you prefer).
I know for sure that an EU member is on a project to re-print dials, so there may still be hope for your 005 -- and possibly even an improved logo on that occasion.

Not immediately, though... :(

I didn't know that Kent would relume replica watches. That's excellent!

I have now placed a firm order. Can't wait to get the watch.

The Kent lume looks fantastic. I would be just a little worried about the customs risk of sending the watch to the US. Don't know how high the risk would be.

damn man, who's watch is it, i have a davidsen socalled superlume dial and one from ruby/josh/trusty for a 005 that i will give you if you want. the lume on them is green of course but if you send me your address i will send you which ever one you need. the one you have looks like ruby/josh/trusty because the panerai logo is printed thicker. the dsn is much thinner.

sorry for your trouble,

hk

I would definitely disassemble the watch, and send only the dial...There'd be little or no customs risk to do this...

Thank you very much for your offer HK. I really appreciate it.
Unfortunetly, i re-send the watch to the EU modder one month ago (for an exchange dial), and today i don't know where is my 005 .... The modder says that he hasn't it, and the french mail don't know where is it for the moment
So, if my 005 is back one day i will accept your offer :|
Thanks again

WOW!

How reasonable?

I just pulled out my order form from a year ago...This is what was listed:

  • Relume of dial: Typical charge $78
  • Relume of hands: Typical charge $34
  • Minimum shop charge: $65

Other services (including redials, painting of hands, relumed bezel dots, casework, crystals, AR, and bezel work) are quoted individually. I don't know how willing Kent would be to do some of this work on replica pieces, but relumes don't seem to be an issue.

Very good result, if I may say so. By the look of a finished lume job - not his first either. :)

Good to have another option for luming, in case Ziggy, Vacuum etc are too busy...

cheers,
babola
