So I picked up a 112h from one of our trusted dealers who will remain unnamed as I am no mudslinger. This may be the worst shape movement I have seen in a watch. There was RUST and dirt everywhere in the movement. The dial had some paint missing on the white lettering. the hands had specks of black on the lume. The crown gaurd is damged. ect, ect.

Anyway, here is what i did.

Here is a fine example of what I'm talking about. :(

In this pic you can see the specks on the hands, the missing paint on the lettering and dust ect on the dial.

So I disassembled the movement and cleaned it all up. :) Removed the "specs" from the hands. I repainted the letter that had paint missing. (I'm not telling wich one....and if you can tell.... good for you...I'm not in the mood)

I pulled the cannon and polished it all nice like! :) I also sanded down the minute hand to get it juuuust right. I sprayed the dial matte and textured.

SO.... in total I think these "mods" cost me around 6 bux. alot better than sending it back to China.

I'm just waiting on some Gmax so I can make this puppy glow! I'm not anal enough YET to care about the slight tells such as dial (DSN fix), Crown gaurd (Toro fix), and crown (T48 fix)but the cotes de Geneve on the movement really bug me for some reason.

Tell me what you think. hopefully my "trusted dealer" will send me a new crown gaurd. I'm no metal smith.;)

Seriously Wiz... how is this possible. I'm thinking some kind of acid got in there. I didn't clean it with an ultra sonic cleaner but the more i look at that pic, the more I figure I have too. I'll do it when i lume it.

looks much better now! -so you just did the typical cleaning trick, soaking the entire watch in diesel for 48hrs, then draining and swinging around, then a quick spin in the laundry centrifuge, before drying up with toilet paper and a hair dryer????

No idea how it could have happend, maybe you're right about the acid, or it was stored in a fish tank...
Use a fiberglass pen instead of an ultrasound cleaner, it's cheap and it's the absolute best to remove rust.

Did you order a vintage watch? Other folks are going to great lenghts to achieve what you just ruined :D

I once got a Fiddy that was rusty. I returned it, because I did not feel like going to these pains like you did. The dealer should better cough up a good CG and a dial as well. Kudos, good work.

With white paint and a diabetics testing lance (very fine needle).
+ very steady hands and a free weekend!!!

Nice work - I really like the matte textured dial. I would have sent her back mad as a hornet. Glad you could get some enjoyment out of this bad situation.

It has taken some trial and error to get the technique right to do the dial.

The "trusted dealer" ;) wants me to send it back but I told him all I want is a new cg and dial. I hope that flies with him. I have sent a link to this thread so he can read it.

Trevor comes through!
Thanks man.

He offered to return and correct the problem. When I told him I repaired most of the issues he offered to send the replacement parts. A very good seller that has corrected the problem. He is still my favorite seller.

Thanks again Trevor.

Update.

Parts arrived. They were from an inferior 112 but at least I got something.

Thanks Trevor

Trevor sent a few CGs and some screws and tubes. I'm happy. ;)

So what's a 'fiberglass pen' as a cleaner....?

......and about the painting of the logo: that's simply amazing. Is the lettering actually cut into the dial surface to allow you such crisp lettering when you paint it?

A fiberglass pen is used to decorate movements. They make those cool circle patterns and can be used for "intense" scrubbing.

As for the print, if you look in the picts the bottom of the U was missing.
They are pad printed so the paint sits above the dial like a ridge. Now that I pointed out the U, you should be able to see where I made the repair pretty quick.

Beautifully done! I have an idea for a dial I'd like to make with my own wording. I gather from what you say (and from what I see on dials) that they are 'pad printed'. Can you tell me anything about that process and whether it is remotely do-able to have just three or four dials done? Is this something I could have done here in Vancouver?
