Tudor Pelagos help needed

Since I have a a couple of Gen Tudors I wanted to get myself the Pelagos to try out, last time I bought a rep Tudor I ended up buying the gen so maybe this is a bad move lol.

Anyway I got some comparison pics of both the versions, but the language written is a barrier for me[emoji51] from the pics some things are very obvious to me in terms of what looks the best, but what I want to know is there anything in the writing that I should know(or we all should know ect)

Well thats interesting !

I cant read it but it looks like the bezel markers are engraved the filled with lume, which is a plus.
I was under the impression that they were just printed on the bezel .


I hope we can find an interpreter though as im very interested too !

So what you want here is the following. Get both watches. Use the XF case, ZF bezel, Dial, Hands, XF Crown and the ZF bracelet parts. lol

Ok, I'm going to give it a shot. I've learnt a lot from this forum and this is my chance to contribute.


As @tt88 mentioned, XF refers to a random factory, Factory X. ZF is as we know it and ?? refers to the gen.


1. At first glance, XF and ZF look about the same. We will analyse further in detail.

2. The lume on the gen is not bad, the gen costs a few thousand dollars after all.
XF's lume is very poor, it dims very quickly. Apart from that, the lume colour is slightly greenish, unlike the gen's. ZF's lume is in the same shade of blue as the gen's.

3. There's a gap between XF's ceramic bezel insert and bezel and the insert is slightly raised. The lume on XF's bezel insert protrudes slightly as well, unlike ZF's.

4. Scraping away the lume material allows us to see that the recess in XF's insert for the lume is shallower, whereas ZF's is deeper as per gen. It is likely that for XF, after production, they realised that the lume is not bright enough since the recess cannot hold as much lume as the gen. Hence, more lume was added on, resulting in the protusion. Even so, the lume is still not ideal in terms of brightness and colour accuracy.

5. The distance between the logo and the triangular index at 12 o'clock is further on the XF than the gen and ZF. Font size and colour is also different on XF. ZF is very similar to gen. Markers on the chapter ring are thinner, longer and of a different shade of white on the XF compared to gen and ZF.

6. The back of ZF's dial is the same as gen. Indices are secured with two feet. XF's is pasted on and doesn't look as secure. We wonder if it will drop off someday.

7. The colour of XF's hands as well as its lume are incorrect. The white looks strange and the black is darker than gen. The lume is yellowish. As the gen hands have been taken out for too long, the lume has discolored due to exposure to the air. The original colour of its lume is the same as ZF's. Also, the border on XF's hands is too thick, resulting in a narrower lume area.

8. ZF's crown is slightly thicker and whiter and the quality of its titanium is better.

9. The crownguards are different. As we all know when Tudor released its first batch, they were similar to ZF's. You can't get those now, even if you wanted to. ZF bought the gen to replicate a long time ago and only released now in order to ensure accuracy of even the finest details. The teeth on ZF's crown are sharp and distinct and the shield logo's top edge is shaped properly unlike XF's which is a bit flatter.

9. The bevel on ZF's bevel are sharp and distinct. The gas escape valve on XF is not greased and is a cause for disappointment.

10. The font type and colour of the gas escape valve on the XF is totally different from gen and workmanship is dissatisfying.

11. The contour on the edge of the XF's casing is evenly spaced whereas for ZF's, it gently narrows as per gen.

12. ZF uses laser engraving on its caseback as per gen while XF employs its own method of engraving. Looking at the teeth on the caseback, ZF's is sharp and distinct while XF's is not up to expectations.

13. XF chose to use titanium for its caseback but the gen uses stainless steel. The engraving, logo and teeth on the XF is really disappointing and doesn't feel the same as gen.

14. Due to the wrong choice of material for the caseback, the engraving inside the caseback is also affected. The caseback appears to be damaged by the edges of the engraving.

15. Now let's take a look at the clasps. The engraving on XF's is too thin unlike the gen's and the finishing is rough. Upon opening the clasp, the poor workmanship is even more evident.

16. The buckle on the gen is made of titanium but XF chose to use stainless steel here, it really puzzles us. Looking at the rubber strap carefully, one realises that the edges are rough and poorly finished.

17. The rubber strap is very important for the Pelagos. Perhaps XF used a poorer material to cut costs and its finishing is also very poor. ZF uses natural rubber.

18. XF's rubber strap is really bad and the rubber attracts lint and dust. The edges are also not well cut.

19. Putting them side by side, we can see that XF's rubber strap uses a poorer quality of rubber and edges are rough. We do not recommend using this strap. The natural rubber strap on the ZF is much better.

20. Looking at the shape of the catch on the buckle, we can see that the finishing on the gen is impeccable and very beautiful. The one on XF has sharp edges and could potentially cut one's hand.

I really wanted to get one even before this and now, I think I really gotta try to save some money to get one. Cheers!
